BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by Sally on Aug 11, 2011 11:00:09 GMT 1, The Antics Roadshow Produced by Banksy
This coming Saturday, August 13th, Channel 4 will air an hour long program produced by none other than artist Banksy.
“An hour-long special produced by Banksy charting the history of behaving badly in public, from anarchists and activists to attention seeking eccentrics. Contributors include Michael Fagan talking about breaking into the Queen’s bedroom: ‘I looked into her eyes, they were dark’; and Noel Godin, who pioneered attacking celebrities with custard pies: ‘Instead of a bullet I give them a cake’. Explaining his reasoning behind the show, Banksy said: ‘Basically I just thought it was a good name for a TV programme and I’ve been working back from there’. Narrated by Kathy Burke and produced by Jamie D’cruz, The Antics Roadshow examines the stories behind some of the most audacious stunts of recent times and what motivates the perpetrators, from mindless boredom to heartfelt political beliefs. It includes a world exclusive first interview with the man responsible for putting the turf Mohican on Winston Churchill’s head.” The show will also be available to view online, shortly after being broadcasted. We will keep you in the loop.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by kahuna on Sept 3, 2011 8:01:44 GMT 1, Update on the camera man street piece in Park City.
www.parkrecord.com/ci_18815165
The best-known Park City piece by famous graffiti artist Banksy is now protected from the handiwork of the average tagger armed with spray paint.
The owner of Java Cow last week installed a steel frame around the Banksy piece with 1/2-inch thick non-glare glass atop the image, a move meant to dissuade vandals armed with spray paint.
The Banksy piece -- a kneeling videographer with a camera pointed at a flower he is clutching -- has been repeatedly targeted by vandals since it appeared as the Sundance Film Festival was starting in early 2010.
Banksy, who had a movie in that year's festival, left a series of graffiti pieces in Park City. The image on the Java Cow building, easily visible and situated on a well-traveled stretch of Main Street, quickly became the best known of the group. The other Banksy pieces still on display have been protected in some fashion with frames, but the one at Java Cow appears to be the sturdiest.
Ken Davis, who owns both Java Cow and the building, has battled vandals since. Someone with spray paint hit the piece, forcing Davis to remove the tagging as best he could. He put a see-through plastic sheet over the image at one point, but it was later torn off the building, apparently by someone trying to get at the Banksy piece. Davis later protected the image with a giant piece of plywood, hiding the piece for a period of time.
"Leaving it the way it was, it was just a matter of time," Davis said, anticipating that the piece would have been Advertisement destroyed eventually if it was not protected better than it had been.
Davis said he hired a blacksmith to build the frame. The frame went up in late August. It has the word "Banksy" on the top. Davis said it cost "a bunch of money," but he declined to identify a price.
Davis said the Banksy piece is worth preserving and said it has become popular in the year-plus it has existed. He said people recognize the piece as being by Banksy, calling the artwork an attraction on Main Street.
"They know to look for it and photograph it," Davis said.
Soon after the pieces appeared during Sundance in 2010, a Banksy fan launched a petition in an effort to encourage people to preserve the works in Park City. The fan said at the time she and her friends had gathered approximately 700 signatures over the course of a few days.
The Banksy pieces remain popular more than a year later. People are frequently seen stopping at the Banksy to admire the work. Many snap photos and some have themselves photographed next to the image. Two other Banksy images remain nearby, but neither of them gained the same popularity as the one at Java Cow.
The Historic Park City Alliance, a group that promotes business on Main Street, meanwhile, uses the Banksy piece on the Java Cow building in its marketing. A likeness of the piece is included on an illustrated map pointing people to attractions on Main Street. The accompanying blurb says, in part, "Park City became the latest canvas for Banksy" when the film, called "Exit Through the Gift Shop," screened at Sundance.
Alison Butz, the executive director of the group, mentioned the Banksy image at Java Cow alongside more proper pieces of art that are on public display along Main Street, including the miner statue at Miners Park and the skier statue outside the Park City Museum.
"I definitely believe people do notice it and seek it out if they know to look for it," Butz said, describing the piece as a reminder of Sundance that is on display throughout the year. "It has become an image of the district."
