BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by naughtyshorty on Mar 10, 2010 21:15:56 GMT 1, i think there's only a certain amount of freedom forum members are allowed in determining who banksy is, what he looks like, where he comes from, whether he's posh or not, and what his sexuality is and i think that some members may not like too much speculation on any of these!

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by bristolboy on Mar 11, 2010 10:41:32 GMT 1, So we've figured out Banksy is 2ft 8" tall, sometimes wears a silver bracelet though sometimes does'nt, he's homosexual, was once married and maybe still is, talks with his hands not his mouth, emits a robotic sound and is afraid of jewllers. Its obvious whoever is looking for him cant be trying hard enough.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by baileymontana on Mar 11, 2010 11:17:17 GMT 1, Saw the film on Tuesday. I didn't like Mr Brainwash before and I slightly changed my mind on him as a person but still think the art is too derivitive. He took on everything he learnt and maximised the profit without the hardwork or talent. I think there's some quote from Warhol about art being about business and MBW showed himself to be a clever business man. Getting Banksy and Fairey to give the quotes was a serious business move.
I thought Banksy came across well. Though feel iis world has conflict in it now. I see legal posters for the film all round Brighton and as I liked the film it doesn't bother me (in fact my local greasy spoon just let me take the poster they had inside). These adverts must make the likes of Team Robbo feel they have point.
I went to see the film with a friend who is not particularly interested in Street Art or Banksy and he really enjoyed the film. I think the story of Street Art and Banksy combined with MBW's rise is an interesting story....the American Dream for MBW and possibly a British Nightmare for Banksy.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by alexnh123 on Mar 11, 2010 11:40:48 GMT 1, just wanted to say; it's testimony to the brilliance of banksy, Shep, space invader et al, that their influence spawned MBW. (that is if you're focussing on the argument for him being a success story).

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by rosstierney on Mar 12, 2010 0:07:16 GMT 1, Oh come on guys...you couldn't see the mouth so why say it wasn't coming from his mouth. I'm sure he's got 20 minutes to spare for his appearance in the movie, don't look for a reason for him not to. No conspiracy, no other person...just Banksy. There isn't even really a point questioning it, it there?
body language! i've got no reason to conspire. i argued the fact that it was him but i still find the suggestion interesting, especially when more than one person suggests.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by lello on Mar 12, 2010 11:41:04 GMT 1, Enjoyed the film! Would have liked to see some more footage of the guys on the streets putting up work.
Thought Thierry did a good job during the Disneyland incident, that could have ended up pretty bad.

Yeah, looked like they might have hours and hours worth of street footage that was not used in the film. Bit of luck Thierry wasn't working undercover for the police

What, mine? If so...no just a happy man who worked hard to get a poster from a cinema. Wish everyone here the same luck!

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by Daniel Silk on Mar 13, 2010 23:47:04 GMT 1, www.independent.co.uk/opinion/columnists/dylan-jones/dylan-jones-thierry-guetta-was-simply-meant-to-direct-banksys-film-now-hes-selling-everything-with-his-name-on-it-1919246.html
"Dylan Jones: 'Thierry Guetta was simply meant to direct Banksy's film. Now he's selling everything with his name on it'"
There has been a lot of chatter about the star of Banksy's film Exit Through the Giftshop, Thierry Guetta, aka "Mr Brainwash". The 44-year-old French artist was meant simply to direct Banksy's film about street artists, but soon became its principal subject โ prompting many to suggest that: a) Brainwash was just a media prank, a convenient invention of Banksy's; or b) that he is actually Banksy himself. But if he is some kind of media construct, it appears to be working.
"I went to Brainwash's show in New York last week, and it was like falling into a semiotic supermarket, a gallery full of reductive icons. In an enormous space in the Meatpacking District, Guetta showed dozens of his pieces, including many variations of his life-size New York yellow taxi, stuck in a giant Matchbox case; portraits made from broken vinyl records (Chuck Close might have painted Philip Glass with fingerprints; Brainwash paints U2 with vinyl); and a multitude of hastily drawn images of the great and the good. And a lot of it appeared to have already been sold, suggesting that the work โ priced from $8,000 to $250,000 โ is resonating with the art world. Is it any good? Some of it, yes, very good. If you ask me โ which, to his credit, Guetta did, although I was too polite to tell him โ he needs a good editor, and the show needed to have been half the size. But then he seems to be selling everything he sticks his name on โ a recent show in LA was every bit as successful โ so what do I know? "I am like a machine, a human machine," he told me, in his charmingly accelerated broken English. "I spit out ideas as though they were words โ words, words, words, hundreds and hundreds of them every day. I wake up in the middle of the night and find myself just bursting with things I want to do. I am ... just a little bit crazy." Hmmm. Guetta certainly has the surface smarts and the mediated swagger of a 21st-century RSA (Rock Star Artist). He has assumed the arrogance of the ultimate YBA, the dress sense of a portly Jim Morrison, and the ideology of a young Mark Kostabi. Really, seriously, who can blame him?"
