Nothin for sale on this thread but this is a topic about selling!

I am about to let my Walker print collection go to a forum member, I have asked him to give me a couple of hours before I actually commit to the sale.

I feel sick, i feel dirty for letting these works of art go for the need of money, almost like I am selling one of my kids!

Is this right, does anyone else feel this way when letting art go? should I seek help!?

I genuinely cant beleive how difficult this is!! lol

... as long as what you buy with the proceeds is either more important (non-art) or a move up in regards to your personal 'art ladder' then it's a good move. If however you don't need the money and don't have your eye on something else then I would re-consider until you do... IMO it's part of the fun of collecting, buying, getting bored, selling, buying etc etc

I would suggest dividing your selling figure by 3 and then selling the collection to me instead.

Your feeling of well being will greatly increase due to the very generous charitable deed you have done.

Thing is I cant work out why I feel so bad!

Is it because..............
It goes against the grain to sell full stop.
Because I love the art and dont want to let it go.
Because I have a personal attachment with each print.
Because of the need to own them.
Because I don't know if its the right thing to do?

Jeez this is pathetic, so pathetic its actually embarrassingly funny!!

Get it out the way as quickly as possible. You are doing it for a reason so the more you dwell on it the more you will worry.

Once they are gone you will miss them but as said you are selling for a reason and that reason will soon make up for the loss.

Pud i know exactly where you are coming from, yet to be in that position but a lot of my Art is very special/personal to me. Selling any of it would be break my heart ( i know i know get a grip on reality)

Some people are able to set emotions aside in all aspects of life, others like yourself and i allow emotions into all aspects of life. It's not pathetic either, it's endearing!

Its like a plaster Pud, do it quick and you'll have a memory of it but no real pain, do it slow and think too much and you'll rip out all your leg hairs and cry like a new born.

If it was a snap decision to sell i'd say hold your horses or you might regret it, but it sounded like you had given it alot of thought, and as has already been mentioned, you have possibly the nicest MA in existence so you wont regret it at all! Let someone have the collection, be like a mum to the prints and allow them to leave the nest man.... my 2c.

LEt em go!!!!! just think you could buy something really nice by MR.BRiaNwash serioulsy though I would keep the TMA London (more so if you live in London) as it is the most sought after and rarely comes up etc.. and it is the best TMA...

In the grand scheme of things, it is pathetic, but so is most things in life ...

What I will add is that I don't see the point of owning all of these - too much of the same. I would personally select the 2/3 you are most attached to and sell those you can live with out. TMA London is very sought after so don't sell it as you will regret it (I do!).

You are a collector so it will be difficult, if you are a dealer then the number 1 rule is to never get emotionally attached to a piece (easier said than done).

Especially when forced to do so because of money.
I then hate the person I need to pay off for making me sell my art.
Right now it's the tax man but I guess he's used to it.

On top of that I'm still tempted to spend the money on more goodies and tell him to b*llocks.

I know exactly what you mean, for me though it depends on the item in question... i've bought plenty of things before i've not really been impressed with, so haven't had a problem selling on.

However a couple of times i just can't seem to sell! For example, i've had hush graf warrior for ages sitting under my bed, i've no room for it and recently i was going to sell it as part of a clear out... i got it out, looked at it and just couldn't do it, so back it went! Same with an Ian Francis print i've got in the same folder!

Thanks for the sensible input to this thread, loving hearing your opinions, I don't beleive the emotional attachment to art has really been discussed much on here, it always seems to be about the money!!

Maybe ,it's not the art itself pud but the personal connections you have to Nick.You have spoken about meeting him a few times and you have commissioned him to create for you.Perhaps you feel you should keep the art because of this.

Out of interest I put the collection up for sale as I wanted to buy a Banksy Napalm A/P, unfortunately I didnt complete my sale fast enough and the Napalm sold elsewhere.

I now have an offer on the table for a signed Mary + cash, and although the Mary is probably my all time favorite Banksy (I have an unsigned) I really dont need to do this deal. I also dont want to let the buyer down who has been extremely keen and a true gent from the very start!

Plus ............. I feel I am kicking Nick in the balls a bit, he sorted the Bristol 99/99 and LTS A/P for me, the rest were bought by luck or after market!

Not never give up thats how i got my london, i used to email a guy in bristol once a month until he needed some money and agree to sell ja ja less than a year ago i got it for £1750

IF NICK GAVE YOU THE PRINTS, THEN YES YOU'RE KICKING HIM IN THE MUTTS.

If i were you i wont sell mate, if you love the collection you have and hurts then don't, you didn't get the A/P you wanted and also you already have the Mary unsigned, so what are you really gaining in total....., i print at the cost of how many prints......., and as for the Napalm A/P just wait i'm sure your'll find another,

You have the unique MA to keep. You really don't need all those prints. Whether Nick hepled you or not is irrelevant as you have more than done your bit supporting him.

Then put the spare cash towards the Bomb Hugger you were after and sell me your unsigned one!!!

What is your gut feeling - if the offer's a good one, and one you're happy with, sell them. Far more exciting than keeping them in the portfolio under the bed. Quality, not quantity, is the way forward...
