Hush Bomb, by numusic on Oct 5, 2007 19:36:08 GMT 1, Well done Opus - Im really feelin the Hush work. The Hushbabe we bought has been commented on alot, its in the entrance to the recording studio and its gained interest of a certain someone. Does Nu not like the Hush work? or is it Opus? ;D Boys will be boys i suppose. Cheers really good to hear your loving the work! *Nu just really wants to be in the Opus clique but can't bring himself to step up and ask, I think he might be the shy and retiring type! A
I like some of Hutch's pieces.. needs to develop a little further away from the Faile stylee, otherwise it's good stuff !
*how am i doin ?

Hush Bomb, by mcnuts on Oct 17, 2007 15:18:49 GMT 1,
sorry had to say something.... while hush is stuff is interesting in a "I would rather buy tesco branded cola rather than the real thing" (you get the analogy)....the dirty bomb print really seems to be grasping at straws and just makes me mad. Simply put it's misogynistic. I'm sure it draws on graphic novels, esp Jap ones which can be off the charts but i just really have a bad feeling in lookin at this image (though other hush stuff is ok). Anyway i can write more on this later, i'm supposed to be analysing interviews, not art.
EDIT: This is what I love about this forum, express an opinion lose respect. sod it. If someone doesnt see my point about the image I'm happy to explain further but it should be self evident.

I wouldn't want to speak for Hush but he's not a member and cannot defend himself, I know him very well and he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, and he seriously would not have any misogynistic reason for producing this piece. His work is always bright and positive and not overtly political, he produces images drawing from his cultural background and surroundings and would never want his work to be seen in a negative way!
As for the 'Tesco Branded Cola' remark I imagine this is a reference to the fact he customises his work much like Faile... no one seems to have a go at other artists e.g Swoon for doing this. I personaly would rather have a print which has been heavily worked on by the artist making it 100% unique rather then just another print off the press!

Hush Bomb, by mcnuts on Oct 17, 2007 16:00:38 GMT 1, good reply anthony and i appreciate it. lookin at hush i see aiko and faile end of. as for misogynistic... i cant otherwise understand what appears to be a lacerated nipple (did i just type that?) and what is interpreted, at least by me, as blood. Perhaps it was a coy way to try and cover up a nipple and I could be wrong there. But why the drippage then?Is she a marathon runner who after a long hot run the chaffing has finally got the better of her? Or maybe she is lactating black paint?
As for the image, I cant see any originality in it. If not faile, it reminds me of the women that used to be painted on the side of WW II bomber planes (perhaps that’s intentional by hush?).
Moreover she looks like she has either a) just farted a cloud of smoke
b) is about to/or is trying to take a dump
c) is about to use the bomb for personal pleasure (edited to be more polite)
Crass I know, but what else is it saying? Anyone? Bueller?
I do get hush’s stuff and am not intentionally slating it. It’s a great alternative when faile pieces costs ten times more. It just happens that I found this image offensive and put my $0.02 out there.
Well now, with my toys all thrown out of the pram, time to get me wee lad from nursery...

No problem, It's definatly not a lacerated nipple and if you look at the image above 'Dirtybomb #1' you will see that it is simply a strike through with paint (if anything to make it less explicit) As for being like Faile and Aiko then you never going to get away from that in art people have been inspired by things for years how many of our current favourites have an uncanny similarity to Banksy, Banksy to Blek or Jef Aerosol and not just in street back through centurys of art history and it has happened time after time. With the WW11 bomber your right this was an influence, Hush looks at the glamour of women and presents this in a manga style. A,B & C are a bit crude so I will leave them alone....
Your right though everone has an opinion but I will always defend the artists I work with ;D I don't know where you are based but if your ever in Newcaslte I would love you to come to the gallery and I will arrange for Hush to come in and you can have a chat with him, I'm sure then you will see that he would never mean any harm ;D
Thanks,

Hush Bomb, by mainartery on Oct 18, 2007 0:06:27 GMT 1, Mcnuts, I do like Hushs work also and even though I am new to collecting street art I am not new to contemporary art. I am surprised by the shallow remarks about some of the art on this site. Is art not meant to effect a person, question them. What do you want to see pink fluffy bunnys.
I have spoke to Hush also on various occasions by email and hope i am not talking out of turn when I say his work is very light hearted and he purposely stays away from the political, his work is more of a representation, a social comment. It also seems that any new artist that comes through here is put up against Faile or Banksy... boring, has nobody seen the art that has been produced over the last hundred years, I think you might just see a few more names that could be used as references of influence. (As far as using ref.A/B/C i think that would explain alot) Anyone else:)

Hush Bomb, by romanywg on Oct 18, 2007 0:55:09 GMT 1, I bought this print and am very pleased with it and at no time have I ever seen it as being misogynistic. There is room for Blek and Banksy just as much as there is also room for Faile and Hush.

Hush Bomb, by Copyright on Oct 18, 2007 9:54:18 GMT 1, I think their is an element of sexuality to the image, but whats wrong with that. As as for critisising someone for taking influence from war time graphics, well you wight as well criticise anyone who takes influence from any previous art movement. And i dont need to tell you that the list would include all the artists you love. Mr B being no exception, Faile, Neate, Dface. all taking not subtle influences from other stuff.

i hope my comments weren’t taken to be shallow. the feeling was real and i stand by them (keep neggin me folks!).... I think this forum is often used as an outlet to push rebranded and second rate tat (Elliot's recent print is proof).
Anyway, I like the discussion that has emerged. Yes, the image is sexual and sure there is a convenient slash on the nipple too. But sexual to what end?
Again I point to A, B and C. Sure very crude. But just as crude as a japanamaited girl with a bomb between her legs? Someone please offer an alternative reading of the piece.
It's clear hush can draw, and his move to personalise prints is great and adds – I’m sure – an extra element to work as no doubt Faile’s stuff does. As for drawing on other artists, I agree and have posted way way back about Faile building clearly in Litchenstien and others and Litch taking from comic books.
My point on Hutch Hush is that… well there doesn’t appear to be a Hutch Hush. I look forward to, as nuart says above, seeing his own style evolve. I do, however respect romanywg's taste and take on the piece.
In the mean time I look forward to seeing some more debate and what people actually like about this piece as opposed to negging for stating one's opinion. I'm not just syaing it's crap. I'm saying why I think it!

I'm saying why I think it!

have you watched any manga lately? Gets a lot worse than that. And not just the Hentai stuff, just look at urotsukidoji.
if anything Hushs bomb between the legs is a more subtle, censored refrence

Point taken and you are right. But the argument that "it gets a lot worse" doesnt hold much weight in my opinion. Sure the scale of mediocre-obscene art is a sliding one and this piece I’m sure is much more subtle than many other things out there. However, simply stating that it is not as graphic as other pieces out there is a rather weak argument to support the merits of the piece. Moreover, many people argue that the likes of near-porn magazine such as FHM and the like which in essence are c**ktease magazine are far worse (and not just for the blue balls they give you) then actual pornography exactly for their subtleties. Now as we are mostly males on the baord, i'd also be interested in a female's take on this piece too

Hush Bomb, by holden on Oct 18, 2007 13:31:24 GMT 1, +1 mcnuts for putting it out there and shaking it about. All rather new to this, but enjoyed reading the thread. I quite like it, dont read too much into it, it is what it is and didnt buy it (altho toyed with buying for a while). She's easy on the eye, possibly doing any/all of the things you suggest whilst riding a large bomb......unusual for many

Hush Bomb, by tomjedimaster on Oct 19, 2007 23:53:11 GMT 1, The hush babe at cargo is fantastic. I've had a number of pints in front of that piece and find the colours very relaxing. But I stayed away from the hush bomb and babe when it came to obtaining some work for my wall. I ended up with the angleface piece, simply because of the lack of titillation. I wasn't keen on having a pair of manga tits on the wall, especially when I don't find hand drawn naked Japanese girls attractive.
