I'm not a fan of MBW by any stretch. I don't have any of his work. Past works don't do a lot for me either. That said, looking at his Flickr page on the show thread I thought it all looked pretty cool stuff. Several pieces caught my eye and he gave away a total of 750 prints. It still doesn't make me want any of his work, but credit where credit's due. It looked a great show. Love him or loathe him I predict he has a very successful 2010. Is he doing a UK show anytime soon? If so, I think I might want to be there purely out of curiosity.

not a fan but he seems to always do well on releases and they love him on EB? beyond me but they do, i dont see how cnn has the expertise to predict who will do well over the next year let alone decade. mbw probly paid cnn bigwigs to put that out

Buying MBW is like buying homes in California in 2004... there might be some serious upside near-term, but eventually the bottom will fall out. I'd hate to be the bagholder on a stash of these when things go sour.

The New Yorker Columnist quote is from a bigger article Proclaiming MBW the "King of New York".

Also, CNN did a recent 'Headline News' type blurb on MBW...

Truth be told, Americans don't give a shit enough about the british to have jokes about them. Very cute I think that BAFTA awards are cute for the same reason. I don't see how that as searching for differing opinions, looked to me like you were just taking a jab at American art. No need to fill me in on British art history, I am pretty well versed, and well... it's a pretty short list. In all truth, British art came to world prominence around the same time as American art: namely the last 100 years or so. Unfortunately, British art lacks the breadth of impact that American art has had over that same time period. The only true moment Brits managed to eclipse their former colony was for a brief moment in the 90's with Hirst and the YBAs. But even nowadays, Saatchi is declaring young New York as the epicenter for great new contemporary art.
