I love Lucy's work. It has a beautifully smooth, flowing line and the bold colouring, whether B+W or not, suits it perfectly. However I don't remember the last time I saw her work and thought of it as a great leap forward as such. I'm certain this is why her appeal is somewhat limited - either you really like the work, or you don't, but revolutionary or evolutionary, it usually isn't. Personally, as I say, I love her work and find it extremely easy on the eye. These are no exception to that imo.
I would buy 2 of these IF I had throw-away cash (A Benign Sunshine and A Darkness Resides).

Lucy McLauchlan π¬π§ Murals β’ Print Release β’ Art For Sale, by Heavyconsumer on Dec 11, 2009 13:42:35 GMT 1, Regarding my above comment about her work not being evolutionary - an afterthought which struck me is how impressive the installations at her show always look and considering the immmensity of scale of some of her outdoor works and these indoor installations, perhaps small prints just aren't the best possible way to view her work or for her to show any real development. I don't think my comment was necessarily fair when remembering the installations and it was more related to the smaller works on paper and canvas.

Lucy McLauchlan π¬π§ Murals β’ Print Release β’ Art For Sale, by angel41 on Dec 11, 2009 14:06:10 GMT 1, Lucy has a very constrained style and don't really expect massive leaps forward from her but to me these look a little half-arsed. They look like something she produced 5 years ago. Her prints always sell out and I'm sure these will too.
Still, a nice Β£15,000 each for her and POW just before Christmas can't be bad.

Competely agree mate, her indoor installations are very impressive.

I understand the bit about the 15k comment (being Englis, I'm easily put-off by any talk about income - it's one of our cultural traits which I happen to feel is correct and polite), but with that exception, what's inappropriate about artists reacting favourably or unfavourably to eachothers' works in here? Never quite understood this, but you're not the first to bring it up. So I'm curious, why can't artists express their opinions too?
I've had similar reactions since joining the forum staff - that I should somehow no longer be free to contribute as I did before. I don't agree. Regardless of the colours of our nametags or numbers of stars/posts, we should all feel free to express our views imo, as long as we're not deliberately rude to one another, no? Otherwise half of us may as well bugger off!

Lucy McLauchlan π¬π§ Murals β’ Print Release β’ Art For Sale, by judell on Dec 11, 2009 18:17:06 GMT 1, Definitely not her best work but I reckon they'll look good when up on the wall together. They better, as I've just spent the best part of 2 hours trying to get them through POW's completely useless online payment collection site. I had all 3 in the basket to start with and that wouldn't process so tried putting just 2 through which eventually worked. Then tried using the same card to pay for the 3rd print which was declined for some unfathomable reason! 3 more attempts later and various cards and it finally goes through! A complete pain in the backside when you have to wait 20 minutes each time for baskets to refresh so a print becomes available again. Don't think I can remember ever getting their system to work 1st time - please sort it out POW!!!

Not had any experiences like this since before Trolleys which was over 2 years ago now and it worked fine on that occasion for me, as it when I've tried on the odd occasion since.
Are other people having problems checking stuff out of POW these days?

I was just trying to say that these 3 prints weren't up to scratch in terms of where the artist is now. Could've been a lot better in my opinion and my comments regarding the money was that they will sell anyway because Lucy has quite a big following when it comes to her prints. I wasn't suggesting in any way that she shouldn't make money.
Sorry to shatter the illusion that artists live on an island together sipping cocktails and patting each other on the back.

Lucy McLauchlan π¬π§ Murals β’ Print Release β’ Art For Sale, by idris on Dec 18, 2009 7:48:13 GMT 1, Like many, I overspent on the old cc this Dec on art & I need to free up some funds for New Years CC bill so i'm offering up for sale POW's latest release on Lucy Mclauchlan.
Prints are Twisted and Hidden Inside, A Darkness Resides & A Benign Sunshine.
I'm not looking to make any money on these; I will consider selling the prints individually but would prefer to sell as a set. I will listen to all offers.
Pics on POW website - references available of previous forum sales.

Slight aside...
... that post is not 20 words! How did it get through?
back on topic ...
it's sort of strange that this is not indicative of her current preferred style (largely monochrome) and yet, in my opinion, it is her best work.
