NYC/Lille... (scroll down 2 c new piece), by Jef Aerosol on Jul 26, 2008 16:41:42 GMT 1, I'll be in NYC from next tuesday (July 29th) till august 4th... Any places, things or events I shouldn't miss in that period ? Will be with wife and two kids, so a lot of visiting the usual sites etc... but can manage to get off the tourist trail a bit, maybe !

NYC/Lille... (scroll down 2 c new piece), by Heavyconsumer on Jul 27, 2008 2:45:19 GMT 1, Hi Jef, If you want to go bargain hunting for clothes (or the wife does) without leaving the city, there are often great deals available in Century21, which is right by Ground Zero and the "World Trade Centre" subway station. I bought some quality shoes, leather jackets and other stuff there for knockdown prices.
If you want to eat a great big steak for dinner, definitely go to Peter Luger's in Brooklyn. Or there is superb quality sushi/sashimi at Yama, on East Houston Street, but I'm sure they have another restaurant somewhere in Manhattan. It's also right next to the West Village for a stroll around after dinner too.
The Bedford Avenue area of Brooklyn is a cool area to mosey around (only a couple of stops from Manhattan on the L-train, which you can catch from Union Square).
My favourite spot in NYC is Central Park. It's cheesey yes, but lazing around on the grass or having a kick-about was always a lot of fun and I hooked up with a few girls there too. There was also a picturesque spot to have a daytime drink hidden away inside the park, a bar/restaurant called The Boat-house (if the weather's good - food there is expensive if I remember rightly).
Have a great trip!

I doubt his wife and kids would get too much from your otherwise inspired suggestion JB!

Definitely agree. Great for the family and don't forget the Central Park Zoo. The kids will love it. MOMA is also a must. Bummer that you just missed the Murakami retrospective in Brooklyn. For me it was the highlight of the summer.

Hooters is also a term that is used to mean breasts.

NYC/Lille... (scroll down 2 c new piece), by Jef Aerosol on Jul 28, 2008 9:36:23 GMT 1, ok, thanks ! I knew "hooters" meant boobs, but hadn't heard of the bar/diner ! About Lennon on the Dakota : of course, this is planned ! The Moma too (visited it 10 years ago) : a must-see ! The Zoo : not sure my kids would like that, they are 13 and 19 years old. My daughter could spend her whole life in Zara, H&M etc... and my son studies architecture, so he'll love visiting places... What/where is "deitch" ? Last time we went to NYC, we wengt to CBGB and Chelsea hotel... too sad those places have died since ! We also managed to attend a great great gospel mass in Harlem, hope we can find another genuine one next sunday. Gotta go, mates, still have a few paste-up to prepare before packing the suitcase ! hehehehe ! cheers and thanks for the tips!
