Andipa Gallery - Banksy Show - 23rd April 2009, by Daniel Silk on Apr 27, 2009 23:21:51 GMT 1, www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/news/original-banksy-works-go-on-sale-in-london-1671939.html
"Original Banksy works go on sale in London
An exhibition of 20 original works on canvas, pallet and steel by the renowned urban/grafitti artist, Banksy, including the largest canvas yet to become available, measuring fourteen feet in length, will go on show tomorrow until 16 May at the Andipa Gallery in Knightsbridge, London.
Andipa was the first gallery to put on a major exhibition of Banksy's work in the secondary market. Over 25,000 people visited the gallery during the exhibition in 2008 to view one of the most extensive private surveys of the artist's work brought together in recent years.
This exhibition will show only original canvases, such as Are You Using That Chair (2005). Measuring over four meters in length, this is the largest canvas by Banksy to have come onto the market. The work is based on Edward Hopper's well-known painting Nighthawks (1942). Another work to be included is an original oil on canvas depicting a traditional portrait of an English Lord struck by a custard pie."

Andipa Gallery - Banksy Show - 23rd April 2009, by Ruggs on Apr 28, 2009 0:09:06 GMT 1, I don't like confrontation on this forum, I try to avoid it, but I have to say I'm finding very annoying that people are less than greatful to others who are just trying to post and circulate useful information. If it's not interesting you do what I do... go to another thread. Thanks Silky! Keep up the excellent work.

Thanks! I try ma best ;D
I really dont like to see people having a go at Artists or Galleries especially when it looks like they have some sort of motives behind it. I wish all the Galleries could just work together and get along, coz the ones that are unable to do that are just damaging their own reputation in the end. I now try to stay well clear of the people, Artists & Galleries that seem to have a chip on their shoulder about stuff.

"Banksy Sale
Acoris Andipa, a London art dealer, said he hopes to sell a painting by the U.K. graffiti artist Banksy for “not far off” 1 million pounds.
The 14-foot-wide canvas, “Are You Using That Chair,” dating from 2005, shows a drunken English soccer hooligan vandalizing the diner in Edward Hopper’s 1942 painting “Nighthawks.” It is one of 35 originals currently being offered by the Andipa Gallery, Chelsea, in its third annual selling show of Banksy works from the dealership’s own collection.
Bristol-born Banksy is one of the many contemporary artists whose auction prices have fallen between 30 percent and 50 percent during the slump.
“We’re still doing good business for originals,” Andipa said in an interview. “We feel the long-term picture for Banksy is still rosy. He’s the artist who perfectly sums up the early 21st century.”
Sotheby’s in London in February sold a version of Banksy’s 2003 spray-paint stencil on canvas, “Kids on Guns,” for 43,250 pounds, less than half the 102,500 pounds the auction house achieved for another version of the painting in London in October 2007.
Brad, Angelina
“We aren’t dropping our prices,” Andipa said in an interview. A 2006 Banksy painting of an 18th-century aristocrat with a custard pie on his face retails at 250,000 pounds. Another canvas from the same series sold at Sotheby’s, London, in June 2007 for 192,000 pounds. A similar work by Banksy is owned by Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Andipa said.
“The Banksy market has cooled slightly,” Gareth Williams, Bonhams’s head of urban art sales, said in an interview. “When he first came on the auction scene, people were excited by a new market and prices went through the roof. They’re being more cautious now because of the economic situation. But there are still buyers out there.”
The highest price paid for Banksy at auction is the $1.9 million given for the 2007 painting, “Keep It Spotless,” at Sotheby’s RED charity auction in New York in February, 2008.
The Andipa Gallery show runs through May 16."

Andipa Gallery - Banksy Show - 23rd April 2009, by Daniel Silk on Apr 30, 2009 13:43:36 GMT 1, Got the Catalogue arrive in the post today ;D Really really good!
I guess for many of us the pieces in the show are a bit out of our price range but the Catalogue is well worth getting. 48 pages, and I counted up about 82 photos of Banksy Originals and Prints.
Remember when you buy the Catalogue you can get £5 off if you say your a member of this forum so that makes it just £10, plus p&p if you get it posted.

Andipa Gallery - Banksy Show - 23rd April 2009, by dotdot on Apr 30, 2009 17:56:17 GMT 1, If nothing else - am sure a good few folks will go there regardless of where it is just to check out the art - nothing wrong with that...imo.
Just like folks did last year - and ... the year before.
As far as facts stand, if you've not seen these pieces before (which i'd imagine quite a few folk here have not) - this is the only place you'll probably ever see them....
(suppose it's not quite "Crude Oils" with the Rats... just a different , it could be argued, type of rats..."OldeMoneyUs" )
Oh and does the money made from the catalogues go to... charity ? (am sure it did in the past..)
