What are your thoughts on Peter Blake?, by Paul on Jul 3, 2007 12:07:23 GMT 1, he's a legend there was a piece in the guardian arts section online about his new exhibition at one of the tate's. i got la ronde fag packets and love it. here it is, in fact (an artist proof of 10). sam's brassierie in chiswick has loads of peter blakes hanging in there. worth a visit if you are west. he lives in w4 too and can often be seen painting charactures of tourists for a fiver along the high road. that last bit was made up the self portrait in denim with badges is a classic image. changed the art world, that painting.

What are your thoughts on Peter Blake?, by Mister Frame Man on Jul 3, 2007 16:11:01 GMT 1, Well worth looking into! Early work was rather political, but an amazing varied catalogue of work over 35 odd years. As for Blake, I would be quite keen to find one of his Union Jack images - stunning detail & print quality!

What are your thoughts on Peter Blake?, by finsburyparkranger on Jul 3, 2007 22:03:42 GMT 1, I was lucky enough to meet Peter Blake at the Earls Court Art Fair back in the summer of 2006. He was a lovely man and spoke to my husband and I for some time. We discussed his contempories as a student at the Royal College ie Bridget Riley and his work way back then and now. He showed us his latest work at the time, and we spoke about our love of street art and Banksy in particular. He was very excited when I mentioned Banksy and had nothing but praise for him and his work. He said he had, he thought, maybe, met him at Glastonbury that yr, but said you never can tell. Peter then when on to tell us about, and show us, his grandsons work which he had very proudly put up with his own work. I think his grandson must have been about 12/14 not quite sure but very young. What he proudly showed us were coloured pictures drawn by his grandson, Street Art Style. So it seems we could have a Blake graffiti artist out there on the streets in the future. Passed this Babe Rainbow on one of the stands and bought for my husband who has been a big fan of Peter Blake now for many yrs, he remembers having a print of this, from a mag, on his wall as a student. Now he has this on the wall beside his desk at work, he loves it. It is very heavy being on tin plate but looks great in this perspex frame. By the way Babe Rainbow was supposed to be a picture of a woman wrester, so it says on a note on back of the picture, who supposedly committed suicide.
Nice post vazie. +1 karma for the original pic (when I'm recharged).

What are your thoughts on Peter Blake?, by sausageboonwee on Jul 3, 2007 23:30:52 GMT 1, Apparently Blake keeps wasps in his beard. Other little known facts about Peter are that he is only 4ft 1 and has chive patterns up the sides of his socks in memory of his first pet whippet - Alan. Alan used to drag himself across Peter's chives when he had worms. True apparently.
