Bast • The Wig Print, by graffalo on Jan 19, 2010 18:38:43 GMT 1, I have noticed that his prices have been increasing but seems to be producing less. Given the edition sizes and fact that these are hand painted still think that they're not too bad price wise. Be interesting to see what the prices are like at the Laz show!!

Bast • The Wig Print, by goatislander on Jan 19, 2010 18:47:59 GMT 1, as usual, I'm sure people are holding them in their carts as they contemplate the purchase. If you keep refreshing you'll get one eventually. "Pork Pie" was an edition of 4 and it went in and out of carts for a few days before it sold out.

Bast • The Wig Print, by snausages on Jan 19, 2010 20:48:31 GMT 1, If the edition size is under 10, he could have easily created a collaged edition. Where each piece is actually a varied collage based on the same pattern. He would just need a dozen copies of each source material. Richard Prince does this often - he collects dozens of copies of the same book and then makes hand made editions from them all.
This image is ok I think, better than Popeye and his older stuff in my opinion, but buying a Bast is pretty low on my list right now...

I've thought a lot about this and I think that his choice to make these hand painted prints is telling (or at least I like to think it is). If these were simply collages he would only have altered and created the image on time. By creating a collage, screenprinting it, then painting it he essentially defaces and alters the original images three times.
I like and own BAST collages and prints and just look at them as two very different modes of expression.

Why does there have to be something to 'get'? I have my theories about what certain things mean but don't know for sure. I just like to look at his pieces. They are pastiche straight from NYC, street, and popular culture. I can't remember who said it (maybe Banksy) but BAST's art is like throwing NYC culture in a blender and turning it as high as it can go and seeing what comes out.

His pieces don't make me question anything or challenge my brain to process ideas in a new light.
It just looks like overpriced Poster Boy work to me.

please don' take it too seriously.
would buy it if me were richer or print's cheaper.

If you display this between a Und Erotik and a Video Six, I bet you will have alot of people scratching their heads when they are viewing them as a whole.
