Surely its our fault for living in this Country not Ottos? I thought fee was applied due to the 'value' stated on customs notice, the fact that its a gift wouldnt make a difference. If Otto puts a low value on it but insures it for higher & for some reason a claim has to be made, this would surely cause problems. Like i said it our fault for living in this tax obsessed dump.

Exactly - you can only insure an item for the value stated on the customs form. If otto had marked it as a low value gift (I think gifts under £36 are exempt from import VAT) then you would have been taking the risk of it being damaged and not being able to claim the full value. If you want the seller to do that then it's up to you to ask - I don't think you can ever expect an overseas seller to do it by default...

The HMRC are well aware of the old 'returned goods' gig. I'd rather not have a tax investigation for the sake of £20.

Well there's a lot of signed Banksy's I'd like for the "normal" price of £150-£500, I would even happily pay £200 more, but there's reality and there's dreaming...

Im not sure when these were selling for £350, but id guess it was just after the release when there was still a hype about them. Its a great print but id say 99p start on ebay is the way forward
