Yeah - galleries trying to sell art hate customers coming from all over the country.

Customers from all over the country hate coming to London JUST to buy a raffle ticket for a chance to buy art. When you factor in how much it is to travel down from e.g Manchester, possibly having to find accomodation and spending money it's an expensive business with little chance of success. At least if the prints were on sale at the shop anyone unsuccessful could blame their lack of success on not getting there early enough to be in the queue.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by buffin on Dec 9, 2009 17:56:41 GMT 1, If there's going to be a lottery at the shop why didn't they start selling the lottery tickets at the beginning of the Fiesta Resistance? And why sell lottery tickets at the shop, while making it free to register to buy a print online? Where did the in-shop lottery rumour start?
In reply to the first part of your question, as of last Saturday evening they were still thinking of selling them on a first come first served basis.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by twist65 on Dec 9, 2009 18:02:06 GMT 1, there will no doubt be mayhem anyway. And people travelling a long way, or deciding whether to bother, could really do with the info though - last minute travel from middlesbrough to london costs £160... Not that i'm coming but I agree with Silky - it's one thing springing the online auctions, but not really fair on non-London based POW customers who want a grey one...

I agree. However I doubt pow are really that fussed. They're going to sell out anyway.
I wondered last time why they don't make them available to ACTIVE members of the forum, people who post and contribute. Now granted, not all banksy fans post on here or even visit, but they soon would do if that's what it took. I doubt your average flipper would be bothered to post year round on here to qualify. and if he did, and was found out, then a ban ensues and bob's your uncle. Anyway, probably wouldn't work, and far too much hassle for pow so I'll just shut up.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by blackheart on Dec 9, 2009 18:37:56 GMT 1, also not everyone has time to post all day and read all the blogs/threads.....
Plus i am not exactly sure they mind the flipping. I know they have spoke out against it to appease the fans but at the same time it pushes the hype machine down the road and sets the price they sell things for.

How about giving out tickets to those who have purchased other artist's print's from them in the couple of months before release. If you've bought one you have 1 chance and if you've bought ten you have 10 chances?

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by Daniel Silk on Dec 9, 2009 19:42:25 GMT 1, I think in some ways it would be good if the only people that got them were ones who have never had a Banksy before. Surely part of the reason for releases like this is to widen the audience, and to reach more people with his work.
I have no idea how that could be done

Think how many flippers that would encourage.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by elwheel on Dec 9, 2009 20:10:25 GMT 1, Just wondering. If I won the chance to buy a green online ... would someone who won the chance to buy a grey at the shop swap if those were our colour preferences, or will grey somehow become more desirable because it is limited to people who can be in London at that time? I wonder will they have the same print runs...

Yeah, unsigned edition of 1000 though. I can't see them doing something like that again but with POW you never quite know.

Banksy • No Ball Games GREY, by niaudiasbrother on Dec 9, 2009 23:53:03 GMT 1, Exactly. Green for lottery. Grey for those who can get to the shop.
The best chance most people have of getting to POW is over the weekend and if it is anything like the open day last year, the vast majority of people turn up on the first Saturday, with Sunday being embarrassingly quiet. I think the best thing to do is to sell the print as soon as it is available rather than another lottery. Let those who want to queue do exactly that. For the rest of us there is the lottery.

and dont mind being run over, its on a main road. not a big pavement.
and also it shouldnt be a free for all because i would have to start qing tomorrow and i have a hand in on friday.
THOUGH.. i have a sneeky sneeky suspision it will be a free for all as of it was a lottery we would have heard something official from POW. I have a horrible feeling they will say on friday night its a free for all and we will have to have a mad dash down there.
I am therefore staying in my east london place which is 50m from POW on friday night.

Funnily enough I have the same suspicion but then I remember what happened at the LAZ Micallef release last year and realise that it could be a massive disaster. Having said that, this Fiesta Resistance thingy has been a bit of a damp squib (putting it mildly) compared to the previous high profile ghettoes and the event last year so who is to say that a riot and a few stabbings wouldn't go amiss. There is no such thing as bad publicity after all.
It could just be that there are legalities surrounding lotteries/raffles where cash is taken in exchange for an opportunity to win a prize.
shit link but you get the idea: www.kch.nhs.uk/fundraising/events/oyoe/how-to-organise-a-raffle/
Given that POW didn't seem to know last weekend how it was going to pan out, a full scale lottery with the money going to charity could take a few days to sort out.
The fact is that they have now taken the 12th off the website. That could be a red herring but who knows. Perhaps not releasing any additional details is enough to build up the hype.
Personally I'd like to know what's happening. I can't make it there on Saturday but would book flights for Sunday if I knew there was going to be a 5 day lottery. I just know that the minute I book a flight for Sunday that POW will announce a free for all/riot on Saturday. It's sod's law! ;D
