Who has ordered the new HUSH print, by Heavyconsumer on Jun 2, 2008 0:05:28 GMT 1, Lou - Thats you opinion but I do not think I can be accused of being easily swayed. I think the lack of sincere apology for selling the advertised number of prints prior to the advertised release is wrong. I also think the question of integrity goes way beyond this incident and needs to be addressed by the forum administration and members. Ground rules are required and open policing of the situation admired. Anything else or less will result in the continued undermining of this art platform. I think a separate thread to discuss this matter be a would be a great idea. I thought that you were happy with the explanation given by Opus, according to one of your earlier posts, as for a sincere apology, how far do you want them to go? the bit about "question of integrity goes way beyond this incident" I am at a loss to who's integrity is being called into question here, perhaps some enlightenment is needed on this one by your good self. Also "way beyond this incident" has this happened before? Heavyconsumer, yes I have an agenda, perhaps not what you may think though, I am just tired of all the negativity which is being posted constantly, bringing this forum and it's members down, of which there are a number of very valued people.
If that's the case, I apologise for my insinuation. ;D

Who has ordered the new HUSH print, by Harveyn on Jun 2, 2008 0:22:41 GMT 1, definitely agree with this, from what i've seen he seems like one artist that really is in it for the love (excuse the cliche) Totally agree. Copyright should be left outof this
Lou - I asked for an open and honest response and did not state that I received one. I think factual comments are fine but under the circumstances an apology for stating that X number of prints would be available and then were clearly not would have gone a long way to put this matter to bed.
The integrity I refer to is the fact that this like any other forum is open to abuse by people who choose to promote in an immoral way their own works or works of artist in which they have vested interest. My comments elude to the fact that people should not be criticized for tabling the issue. This is a very real concern and we all should be interested in understanding how we can ensure that it is minimized and eliminated going forward.
I propose a sensible debate how from a system perspective this can be minimized and how we as a body can self police the process.

Agree 100% Harveyn. I'm just not sure how it could be put into practice. Multiple accounts with the same IP could be policed more regularly/thoroughly but as mentioned before it's not a completely failsafe method - and there are ways round it for the determined. Beyond that I'm not sure what else could be done.

Who has ordered the new HUSH print, by jfury on Jun 2, 2008 0:43:54 GMT 1, this whole debate about an artist that 6 months ago everyone used to use in the same context as Zbiok.....in other words rubbish, now he is the best thing ever (well this moths fav anyway) I find it unbelievable - yes his work has certainly stepped up a level but really is it deserving of this level of debate?...i don't think so.
..anyway its June so who do we love this month???...I am going for miss bugs (even tho a fav from back in february), plus I am looking forward to reading the numerous threads about a sold out show with no prints left, how unfair it was because it was all sold out at the preprepreview, miss bugs mates bought all the show blah blah blah blah

I completely agree, Harveyn, including the requirement for ground rules and a transparent policing on this forum.
Discussing the matter openly is also a great idea, provided people can do so without fear of being banned for voicing their opinions. Freedom of speech often falls by the wayside here, with members banned for being "negative" or "in the interest of the forum" when they raise awkward questions.
One of the obvious problems is that, by accepting "complimentary" artwork from galleries and artists, the interests of the Administrator are conflicted. He is no longer neutral and impartial.
Of course, it's tempting to turn a blind eye to someone's shenanigans when they are feeding you free art. It is good for the Administrator's art collection and financial position. It is good for the business of the galleries and artists that play these games. It is not good for this forum or the street art scene generally.
Regrettably, I don't believe there is a will on the Administrator's part to resolve this particular conflict of interest. In fact, I suspect he would argue that there isn't a problem.

you could fit the posts about the work on 1 page
and Miss Bugs as artist of the month twice in a year? Surely that's unfair...

Who has ordered the new HUSH print, by mammal2 on Jun 2, 2008 0:59:59 GMT 1, This is a message board right? People will always have coercive or machiavellian considerations. This is big bucks to alot of people. At the end of the day though, this board has become populated with idiots. Not all mind. Plenty of great new members on here but also plenty of c**ts. I collect Banksy and other odds and sods because I have a real passion for what these artists are doing. Its here and its now. I spend god awful amount of time on this and other boards as I have met some great people, plus if I ever mention Banksy to my mates outside of this bloody internet I will be killed. I just like coming on here for a laugh. Some s**ts and giggles. Anyone that has actually met me at a gallery, hopefully knows Im alright. But, sweet jesus all this politik over paper is beginning to ruin this site. I used to love Star Wars. George killed my love for them ever so slightly. Loved many great bands in my life, until they release a s**t album and then its tainted slightly. It shouldn't do. Just does for me. Now for the past few months I have tried my hardest to find something interesting on this board, but all I seem to read about is 10 pages of vile spew towards people. People can sometimes be idiots and Gallery after Gallery has sprung up. A good few of these will also be run by idiots. Trust me, give it a couple of years and they will be filing for chapter 11. The real talent, Faile, Neate, Banksy, etc will continue to rock the house. But for gods sake don't destroy this board with quite immediate violent excesses. Many great contributors this board had have gone or been pushed. It is not for me to speak for them, but I feel quite close to doing the same. No great shakes. I have friends who have been collecting Banksy since 2003 and missed many of the new releases. I call them, they go, "thems the breaks". Indeed. Them is the breaks. Its important to keep people held to account. But at the end of the day, just cause you couldn't have the print cause someone f**ked up. Well life can be s**t sometimes. Take it on the chin and lets stop this lynching. People will always get their dues. Chill! Start opening threads about real stuff and not bile. That is the future.

Who has ordered the new HUSH print, by jfury on Jun 2, 2008 1:12:49 GMT 1, mammal agreed - I am thinking of a positive new thread now unless you get there first, was gonna start one about the drewatts auction but someone got there first. Me and the mrs went round it today and I really really enjoyed seeing all the stuff. nice to se such a variety in one show. Especially liked the titifreaks pieces and the massive denning
Personally I think all the neg comments started when the respect system was removed as I felt it kept people in check anyway thats a whole nother story and again not art related so i will stop there.
Anyway +1 mammal!

Who has ordered the new HUSH print, by carlito on Jun 2, 2008 10:05:50 GMT 1, Totally agree. Copyright should be left outof this Lou - I asked for an open and honest response and did not state that I received one. I propose a sensible debate how from a system perspective this can be minimized and how we as a body can self police the process.
this is interesting, as any sensible debate about any of these issues or anything to do with how this forum works are generally 'not for us mere plebs to get involved in'....

Sounds good, but it would be impossible to police
What would be the difference between a Artist/Gallery with more than one account pushing their stuff, and a Friend of the Artist/Gallery doing it? different IP's and no solid connection

True, but if you buy a print from an artist, and later on you find out it was the artist under another name, or a friend of his that posted about it does that make the piece any less desirable? Are people really only buying what other people tell them is good?

look around this forum...there's alot of purchasing for the sake of purchasing now, with the hope it makes some wonga...
if a new show / artist / print is hyped by a group of ppl than others will take notice and buy into it
in an ideal world where we all bought purely on our own tastes + those of ppl we respected and understood, and only ever sold when we ran out of wall space - then there would be no need to worry about how things are pushed here...

Spot on!
If people are buying for the wrong reasons, and they are just buying the first thing that pops up on a forum I dont really see how or why anyone should change the way they post in some sort of attempt to take the temptation away.

Yes it most certainly does. I don't want to buy art from someone who is being less than honest with me. It's been said before but it's a matter of INTEGRITY. If someone is trying to pull the wool over my eyes then I don't want their art on my wall no matter how good it was - it would become tainted.
I don't understand what relevance hype has to this thread at all. Please can someone explain...

Its not just about hype though is it? Its about honesty and integrity as has been said many times before. Let me take a general point not directed at anyone. If an artist or a gallery are not honest where does that leave you? How can you be sure that all a limited edition are issued and some not kept back for friends and relations of said people or that a few extras are made and issued above that advertised. If you need help with provenance or forgeries somewhere down the line where does that leave you with someone who is not honest? Please think these things through unless you are happy to promote such unscrupulous actions.
Harveyn is right about what he said and I do consider that the management of the forum has some duty of care to its members not just the artist and galleries. All imo.

Thats fine So where would you say the line should be drawn? the artist, the artists partner, the artists gallery, a worker of the gallery, a close friend of the artist, a member of the artists family, a collector of the artist?

I have no problem with any of those people posting as long as they are honest about who they are. The line should be drawn when people are being deceitful.

I agree! Some of artists a galleries do really need to take more care of their actions coz as we have seen over the last few weeks it can really backfire
As a forum their is no way of policing the situation If their was I would be totally for pushing it forward, dont worry about that. At the end of the day if any artist or gallery does wrong it lands firmly back with them to explain themselves, and clear up the mess.

Who has ordered the new HUSH print, by spirit on Jun 2, 2008 16:06:16 GMT 1, Silky - I understand that there is no perfect way to police this - but can you at least assure us that you will do what you can and make it as difficult for people as possible to manipulate the forum? For example: recently four accounts were posting with the same IP and had been for quite some time. It actually took WK to look into this and then the info came over here and even then it took a a few days to get an answer from you about whether those users had the same IP on here. Will you please keep a regular eye on this in future? and if you see multiple accounts posting from the same IP will you please act on it quickly? Also, would it be possible to put something in the T & Cs that people sign up to, that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable and may well result in a ban?
It's not a failsafe solution and there are ways round it but anything that can be done to prevent this/make it harder should be done imo. Thanks a lot
