Bloomsbury Auctions π¬π§, by Dead Elvis on Oct 13, 2007 0:11:53 GMT 1, I can... It will be one of the top defining Banksy images as time passes.
I agree completely. This is easily one of Banksy's strongest pieces, along with Napalm. Although I admire the majority of his work, I feel there only 2 or 3 pieces that transcend his "one-liner" street art realm into an actual artistic statement....different strokes they say... I really like the attempt at the David statue (although I feel it could've been executed a little more compellingly); that's a pretty bold move in the grand scheme of things, taking a crack at David, like the many greats before him have...

Bloomsbury Auctions π¬π§, by finsburyparkranger on Oct 13, 2007 0:53:09 GMT 1, Tell you what though, it was a defining moment in art history. I was there tonight and there was a beautiful moment when morons came up......
The auctioneer went 'hmmmmm..... morons. signed sepia ..... hmmm what does it say ...... I can't believe you morons actually buy this.... s**t..... hmmmm.' Classic
Very funny. Seems like the place to pick up a bargain, f**k ebay. I recommend going, next month November the 29th. 24 Maddox street, next to hamley's. Free Β£15 catologue upon request.
There will be a nice signed golf sale for the taking.

Bloomsbury Auctions π¬π§, by endtimes on Oct 14, 2007 16:24:39 GMT 1, APPLAUSE: ebay item# 180162963561
For the full list search completed auctions on ebay.com Banksy price over $500.
A couple prints including Morons (surprisingly) sold pretty well. But signed barcode for example went for a record Β£9800 on ebay 2-3-4 months ago I do believe. Sold for Β£6200 at auction and the seller only took home roughly Β£5500 - Jack and Jill the seller took home about Β£3.5k etc.
I've said it before I hate seeing this stuff go to auction because it adds about 30% fluff inbetween what the seller takes home and what the buyer pays which is all auction house profit. I really don't want to be too judgemental but the record number of Banksy works in auctions this fall reeks of people trying to cash in when it's now appearing it would have been better off if people simply made good deals with forum members for example. Oh well.

I think they were all priced roughly the same, around Β£500 (well that's what I paid for HFU and No-one), but the prices rise as they sell more.
There is also often a 'pre-release' offer to the gallery's regular buyers.

cheers for that. So still proves my point that the pieces were selling for 5 to 6 times what they cost. Not a bad return, still not the prices paid on ebay but none went for cost.

very true. i was just assuming people paid cost (i have never bought anything from the 2ndary market). So i guess i was using the original purchase price as my benchmark and pointing out the price increase relative to what it went on sale for. However, I appreciate ppl may pay substantial sums over the original price.

Bloomsbury Auctions π¬π§, by Pattycakes on Oct 15, 2007 8:51:29 GMT 1, I do feel that we have reached a point where the market has softened, there is much talk of ebay prices, but we know that a ton of shill bidding has and does go on, so whilst the prices at the auction were not as high as we've seen them, I think they are probably indicative of where the secondary market is going. It's also important to realize that these prints are not exactly rare, most signed editions are 150 - 400, and unsigned are 600-1000, that means there are a lot of prints out there. Speculators are not collectors, they base their values on the prints perceived scarcity. What does this all mean? I think the end of the prices continually going up, which frankly was stupid and those who bought into it were a little deluded, the prices will eventually settle at a stable level - and we should be pleased that they will. At least we'll all know where we stand, and stop worrying what that signed CND might make and what it'll mean to the value of the one on the wall and the two that are probably unframed under the bed.

Yeah I've got a signed golf sale in that auction. Although they were supposed to call me first to discuss the sodding reserve. May I ask what reserve they've put on in it?

doesnt say but the reserve is often the lower end of the estimate unless you talk to them..... still not to late to set a reserve.
499. Banksy (b.1975) golf sale silkscreen, 2003, signed and dated in pencil, and with the red BANKSY tag, numbered 121/150, published by Pictures on Walls, London, on wove paper, the full sheet, in good, fresh condition, sheet 345 x 495mm. est. Β£4000 β Β£6000

I've got something going in the sale although not a Banksy.
Lot 112 Ian Hamilton Finlay Headlines:Evelines which is a portfolio of 13 silkscreens. Done as an edition of 50 and this is no.21
I have had this portfolio for yrs and am beginning to wonder if I have done the right thing in selling. First thing I have ever sold re art. But if I am to go on collecting something has got to give and it is NOT going to be my Banksys.
Funny thing is it has sat in the corner for yrs hardly ever looked at, now that I do look at it, I can see how NOW it is.

Cheers, its a bit annoying also because i included a receipt and santa's ghetto flyer (don't laugh too much, it does make a big difference to the price) which they should be advertising in the catelogue as included otherwise I would have been better of selling it myself. Not liking this auction business now. Get the feeling they don't understand the Banksy market that much. at all.

Imagine if you asked your brother to put your signed golf sale on ebay whilst you were on holiday because you needed the cash and he gave you that answer. You would ring his bleeding neck.

I wouldn't worry too much FPR. Most buyers at auction take the view that the purchase from an auction house guarantees provenance. Auction houses have on rare occasions in the past been stung (Hirst prints in particular) and are now at pains to establish provenance. So most people bidding will not have any doubt about prov.
