Bloomsbury Auctions π¬π§, by dynamixx on Dec 13, 2008 13:06:49 GMT 1, Some real shockers there, personally never seen so many prints unsold in any auction, has to be an new low.
Some of the estimates were definitely all over the place, but shocked to see CND soldiers signed went unsold with a low end of Β£2.5k, as well as Grin Reaper at 3k. Few more unsigned suprises too, Napalm not selling at Β£800 low end, Grannies at Β£600 and Sale Ends at Β£800.
I think the more time that goes on, the more we'll see what we used to think of premium, auction house quality prints appearing on eBay instead. Frankly prices there tend to be higher than the auction house results we've been seeing lately anyway. A lot of these prints are becoming too much of a liability at bricks and mortar auctions, especially taking into account fees and the sheer volume of unsold lots we're seeing. Either way, estimates at these places and sellers' expectations need to be seriously revised.

Bloomsbury Auctions π¬π§, by Pattycakes on Sept 16, 2009 7:52:07 GMT 1, One of Bloomsbury's top departments is 20th Century prints, who will provide Dreweatts some very much needed assistance in that area. Expect new sales in 2010, particularly with an Urban theme.

Sad that the powers that be decided to flood the market with prints and rape the greedy. All you can say is, never again! His print market is clearly not being supported.
Unless you like them on the wall though eh?

Bloomsbury Auctions π¬π§, by Poppy Sunshine on Dec 5, 2009 10:09:32 GMT 1, Micallef will be back although he's taking a bigger battering than most.
A real shame for one of the few with proper talent.
The people with spare cash at the moment are going for the safer Banksy option in terms of investment so the auction money is not going to go on the Mics.
Unfortunately crap auction results stick in the memory like the odd middle of the night bargain prices on ebay so it looks like we have a new benchmark.
You've got a framed Judgement Day on the forum at Β£550 which is of course an absolute bargain, then you've got MWIH going for just over 1k on the bay and Minotaur Weapon etc at Β£1k in auction all in the same week. What is all that about?

Bloomsbury Auctions π¬π§, by Pattycakes on Dec 5, 2009 10:12:46 GMT 1, I think that's what they are worth at the moment, hence the prices, at auction you've got the actual price people are prepared to pay for a work of art at any given time - Im this case Mic's work was just not in favour... I don't know where it goes from here, my suspicion is people really need to stop dumping them, it's the only way people will establish that these are not something people just want to get out of... sadly the majority of his buyers bought to flip so it's bad all round

Bloomsbury Auctions π¬π§, by spartan on Dec 5, 2009 12:46:34 GMT 1, Just run an archive search on Micallef, and how the prices have tumbled. For example, Judgment Day sold for Β£1800 in October 2007.
It can't be sold framed for Β£500 now.
I'm not sure Micallef prices will ever go back to their previous levels. In fact, I can see the prices coming down even further, as people try to let them go before they totally lose value.
Good news for those who like his images and want them on their wall, bad news for people who were caught up in the frenzy, and were only ever interested in flipping.
