A Banksy auction record to be set for sure?!, by yeah7 on Sept 27, 2007 11:13:35 GMT 1, Personally, if the piece "People Di Everyday" came up for auction, I'd guess that'd fetch a $1million easily. IMO, it's by far and away his best piece of work to date.

A Banksy auction record to be set for sure?!, by Wanksy on Sept 27, 2007 11:38:40 GMT 1, One major problem Banksy has is that all this money raised through Droit de Suite (Artists’ Resale Rights) is that he can’t claim any of it, not one penny!!! Since it’s a made up name and his/their identity is unknown the company that holds, controls and sends out the cheques refuses to do so for Banksy as he is not a real person. FACT.
You will probably find this particular work will set a record of some sort as it’s the only Banksy that has ever appeared in such a massive Contemporary art sale and Christie’s have the biggest address book in town of Hedge Fund managers. Added to that the biggest collectors in the world will be focusing their interests on the sale room and if they can afford to buy a Francis Bacon est. at £7-9million then £300k+ is just pocket change.
Live the dream…

A Banksy auction record to be set for sure?!, by blacksy on Sept 27, 2007 16:52:50 GMT 1, correct me if i'm worng - but didnt the space girl set the prievious record at an earlier auction this year - going for £288k news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6592739.stm
now it's clear from the pictures that these are 2 different doors, the brown one having already sold, the more silver one remaining.
lets take a guess on how much the value will have increased in the last 6 months.
I'm gonna stick me neck out and say £288 in feb/march - £440 in October

A Banksy auction record to be set for sure?!, by tadghostal on Sept 27, 2007 16:53:36 GMT 1, I guarantee you this is not a problem. Banksy has a PR manager, as well as an art manager, and either one of them will have no problem in collecting and then cashing any payments due. Not sure if you've ever noticed before, but banks are more than willing to cash checks for LOTS of non-people, or entities that are not even human beings. What in the world would stop them from cashing checks written to a pseudonym.
How do you think Dr. Seuss was able to collect on his royalties?

A Banksy auction record to be set for sure?!, by minguez on Sept 29, 2007 9:32:00 GMT 1, just had a look in the catalogue for the contemporary day actution... If Lot 220 has an estiamte of 80 000 - 120 000, then I see no reason why Banksys should not bring in 10x more, and this was just one example...
It does not matter what position in the arthistory some of the artists in that catalogue has made themself...crap is crap, and if people pays 120 000 for Cy Twombly...
For me Banksy makes art that means something, and that actually seems unique in the contemporary art scene...
