Banksy Radar Rat • Dirty Funker 12", by Guest on Feb 29, 2008 13:58:12 GMT 1, hello, from reading again think dirty funker got banksy to do the sleeve but then htfr then decided to do there own release - the dirty funker has brought in controversial street/graffiti artist banksy, who is well known for his distinct stencil style to design a limited edition sleeve. ***Us folks here at htfr have gone one better and given it you in an even more exclusive brown cover*** the way they have went about it, is wrong but like others have said £10 is not really that bad...if it is not backed by banksy then they will probably have made alot of money from forum members so far today..s So this is a bootleg release by HTFR. unauthorized by the record company and Banksy. Great

Banksy Radar Rat • Dirty Funker 12", by robinbanks on Feb 29, 2008 13:59:30 GMT 1, Well that's how it's advertised - so if they aint then everyone who bought one would be entitled to a refund. I can't see how it would be in their interest to lie about it. Either way, it's a sweet image, that will look cool in a cheapy 12" frame for under a tenner - can't say fairer than that. It would be in there interest to sell records, seeing as they are a record distributer.
Duh - obviously. But there are strict laws about falsely advertising goods - and I can't really see why a huge online music store like HTFR would want to mislead people in such a way that they would face legal action.

Banksy Radar Rat • Dirty Funker 12", by Agent Provocateur on Feb 29, 2008 14:03:26 GMT 1, OK another point... is it a bootleg? When I mailed the guy auctioning ALL THREE colourways (with the same sticker etc) he said he got them (I presume all three) from a distributer three weeks ago. Because they came together, they have the same sticker... and the reocrd label emailed me with:
'the grey and white wont be commercially released, theres going to be a very few brown available via :
www.htfr.com/more-info/MR248909
its avaialble on vinyl for 7 days then deleted
thanks, Spirit HQ'
It seems to point to them all being produced together doesn't it?

Banksy Radar Rat • Dirty Funker 12", by daveanthony28 on Feb 29, 2008 14:03:34 GMT 1, Dave they were even selling bootlegs of forthcoming promo's not just rare stuff. I'm not getting into a ruck about it, I just want people to think before they buy. I personally think the image looks crap on the brown sleeve. Go find another online retails and buy the white sleeve. It looks 10x better. You'll also find it cheaper...
I understand that, but just wanted you to have a bit of background that all in all they are ok guy's. In my honest opinion this shop forged many of the links in underground house being readily available in the early to late 90's. Brought my first copy of Daft Punk - Da Funk on Soma records years before Virgin picked them up as artists. anyway back to art.

Good luck being a miserable bugger - it's going on my wall whatever - it's a great image, and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

I was refering to trading standards getting involved - not 500 people all taking it up with the small claims courts. I think someone was just trying to be a smart arse.

Banksy Radar Rat • Dirty Funker 12", by Agent Provocateur on Feb 29, 2008 14:14:37 GMT 1, Well thanks for everyone letting me know they don't think I'm a HtFR employee!!!
Rest assured I will be very circumspect with what I post in the future... the information about numbers and colourways was information passed to me that I wanted everyone to know so that they could decide for themselves.
I was also reticent about starting this thread exactly because I am bidding on the three colourways auction on ebay (and noooo, before anyone says, it is obviously not my auction!) which has gone up £45 since the start of this discussion!
Ho hum, being quite new here it seems I have learnt a valuable lesson!

AP - don't worry about it mate. I'm sure there's plenty of people on here who are extremely grateful for the heads up, myself included. That is, after all, exactly what this forum is all about.
Unfortunately there are a few miserable buggers on here who like to piss on peoples parades from time to time.
Whether it turns out to be dodgy or not isn't your problem , and IMO it's irellevent because it's a great image at a great price. So thank you for letting us know.

Banksy Radar Rat • Dirty Funker 12", by Agent Provocateur on Feb 29, 2008 14:37:10 GMT 1, Ahhh yes, forgot about the test proofs a while back. I was really interested in them and asked a serious amount of questions... but stupidly I felt there wasn't enough information/provenance (the guy with the auction didn't know the band, release date etc) to bid that amount of money. Wish I had now!

Interesting opinions on HTFR.
I lived in Birmingham on a teaching practice in the mid 90's. Not knowing many people there I stumbled across HTFR and spent many a late afternoon/early evening sifting through the vinyl. This was back when it was just a big room on one of the levels of an office block (it felt kind of like a secret place that only a few people knew about)!!!! It certainly kept me entertained, I got some absolute gems there, and everyone was dead friendly and genuine.
However, that was then, and I certainly understand why some people question their ethics now. Personally I think they've been amazingly successful as a company- looking at what they were, to what they are know. But, as we all know, it's rare to do well in business unless you are a bit ruthless (i.e. what 2wire mentioned earlier about the bootlegs). I also think the 'hard to find' tag doesn't apply anymore, as they do charge people a lot of money for things which could be found cheaper elsewhere with a bit of searching. At the end of the day they're a big, successful company now, and with that you're always going to get your fair share of critics.

And I couldn't give a fuck if it's limited edition or not. It's a great image, good size etc. I'd definitely have one of these rather than a dodgy repro on ebay (I just wish I could get hold of the white one)!
I wonder how many people have bought this record without actually listening to the tune?

Banksy Radar Rat • Dirty Funker 12", by Agent Provocateur on Feb 29, 2008 15:05:10 GMT 1, No, back again!
I just went back to the HtFR site and noticed it had a red cross saying 'no' to availability... reckon we've just bought up all their copies? Still not sure whether the record companies 300 or the 500 that was mentioned when someone emailed HtFR.
Anyway, hopefully that means it's a nice limited number and we're the lucky few to get one!!
A happy little Agent signing off (again!)
