Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by Jef Aerosol on Mar 10, 2008 16:02:54 GMT 1, The Chaplin figures are by Defy and the Brigitte Bardot is by his wife Diva... They got to know my work thru myspace and got in touch with me. Defy's daughter Rosie was writting a thesis about french street art, so she wanted to interview me. Then, They accomodated me when I was in London for my show and they are the ones who took me to that billboard, not far from their place, where we stencilled together. We then went to Linden Alley (Chiswick) where I painted my Nick Drake, just below Pete Blake's windows (this is what Defy told me) Here's Defy's myspace : www.myspace.com/rebelnottaken

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by gtf on Mar 10, 2008 17:02:10 GMT 1, Only what we display in galleries should be "buyable", the street is free art for all... Once for all, let's make it clear that street paintings have no money value ! If we ALL agree on that, we'll save the spirit of that street art we love so much !
Exactly!
Will banksy keep on doing street work if it is immediately covered up then removed and sold to some collector???
Surely this is against the whole ethos of street art. Getting buffed, tagged on, pasted over, weathered is all part and parcel of putting art on the street. Getting sold to whoever comes along with a large enough wedge of cash or stolen is not.

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by Gurn on Mar 14, 2008 15:49:24 GMT 1, Once again Jef,we have a situation where one persons greed in taking your piece(s) is detrimental to the pleasure to be had in stumbling across great art on the street. The people that buy these items are as bad as those that take and sell them.It also now stifles the freedom of the artist to express him/herself.We all know that much thought is taken about placement of works but if the artist is restricted to hitting up large immoveable objects then the free/punk spirit that Jef enjoys is lost.

But then again. Its a bit cool that someone wants to go to all that stress to get one of your pieces from the streets!

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by Jef Aerosol on Mar 16, 2008 0:15:23 GMT 1, well, I don't see it as being cool at all ! If that person liked my stuff, he wouldn't have taken it from the street ! People who take stuff from the street don't like art, they like money... So, I guess that person might have thought those pieces were by Banksy... You can't be a fan and steal stuff from the street ! I'd rather people bought my prints (if they can't afford the canvases, the wake up print is only 50 pounds and the sitting kid is only 80 !) than take stuff from the street... I have a lot of fans here in france who never buy art but take millions of photos, post them on the web, get in touch with me, come to the shows, share with others : I like this much better !

Probably a special paint that can be removed by a restorer in the future...its the last we'll see of that

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by Copyright on Mar 28, 2008 11:22:45 GMT 1, i watched this dude paint boat varnish all over the wall. it now has a rather nasty orange stain. Guess they got stained varnish by mistake? At least they got rid of the perspex. I dont know if its an effort to protect it or a method of removing it.
