Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by amy on Mar 3, 2008 17:49:20 GMT 1, I'd love to know if it's genuine.
For all you experts who can confirm or deny, I've geotagged it on my flickr page: www.flickr.com/photos/amyeee/2307554918/
It's on Essex Road, between Melville Pl & Greenman St. Here's a satellite map: maps.google.co.uk/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=51.539986,-0.096399&spn=0.001001,0.002511&t=h&z=19

You've got a keener eye than most when it comes to this, so I'll lose my money gracefully
I was stunned to discover recently the scary fact that one in every eight pounds spent in the UK is spent in Tesco.

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by dave313perry on Mar 3, 2008 18:48:47 GMT 1, Looks like a mantis piece to me - almost certain its no Banksy, in my mind - but thats only my opinion
very very good though - seems strange that there hasnt been more tesco imagery knocking about considering their dominance in the national market

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by mammal2 on Mar 3, 2008 18:54:56 GMT 1, Just went to look at it and its awsome. Not far from previous Banksy work in Stokey. I would say this is a Banksy. The style is similar to previous work! The owners were looking at the wall a wee bit perplexed. I think I heard talk of a removal job! Ha! I would say without a doubt Banksy! Well executed and well placed. This wall was always a wall i thought should be hit! Brilliant!

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by scavos on Mar 3, 2008 19:06:15 GMT 1, This is a close call! Banksy/Mantis? Superb statement for sure and I love the composition. My money here is on Mantis because of the faces, but I thought he was back home.

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by mammal2 on Mar 3, 2008 19:07:59 GMT 1, I would disagree. I think the faces are fine. They look good to me. If this is Mantis (which i doubt) then fair play, but to me the style, execution, position, sheer genius is Banksy. No doubt in my mind.

One of the faces looks like Ed Chemical from Chemical Brothers.

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by scavos on Mar 3, 2008 19:15:33 GMT 1, This is a cool part of the scene - trying to work out who's done what. Just to clarify - I think the faces are very good too - they just remind me of Mantis' AFD which is an awesome street piece. Like I say, close call and this thread is a testament to the stencil work of Mantis to be compared to Mr B. I remember AFD caught a few people out when it first appeared.

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by robertlondon on Mar 3, 2008 19:20:50 GMT 1, Given that Banksy has used Tesco in previous pieces and is currently incorporating street furniture into his work... I'd say Banksy
Anyone else I'd say was just copying Banksy themes...

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by mammal2 on Mar 3, 2008 19:21:59 GMT 1, I dont think Banksy has a direction as such. He will do blacked out stencil kids one days, highly complex ones like Bethnal Green, simple rats, etc the next. It would not surprise me that Banksy threw the simple one tone kids up himself, but required help for the Essex Rd piece. I was on Essex Road Friday and Saturday night. I walked past the wall on Friday and twas not there. Saturday was a mash up so cannot remember but hey! The execution of it is far to amazing to be lashed up in ten minutes. This was a bright yellow coat and work space job. Bring out the covering and rigging I say!

Yeah for me its the detail in the tesco carrier - coupled with the faces/hair and expressions, along with the added Grey colour to the figures - which i wouldnt have expected Banksy to do - like i say though this one could go either way but i would be surprised if it is a B but stranger things have happened!!!
and plus alot of big followers think its B !!! this beats talking about flippers anyhow!

when i first saw it i immediately thought mantis because of the faces but the position, subject, incorporation of street furniture and feet all look like banksy.
Also the faces are quite similar to what he did on the wall

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by mcster on Mar 3, 2008 19:52:20 GMT 1, If it's not Banksy it's a very well executed piece by a very good artist. If it was me I'd have tagged it and taken some credit (assuming it wasn't Banksy).

Banksy Street Art • Tesco Generation, by yeah on Mar 3, 2008 19:55:41 GMT 1, Got to be banksy.
I remember the stupidity around 'all fall down' (which was on mantis's website!!) - people not even believing it was by mantis....
I don't think mantis is in the country at the moment anyway....

The only thing that makes my doubt it's Banksy is the bag-flag for some reason, but can't quite explain why.

Okay. Right click on image, select "Properties", copy code, paste within img brackets. It works when it's in a quoted message but not by itself. Why not?

Not the picture you were after Melf, but similar.
Generally its nicer to let the photographer post their own pictures, rather than assuming you can just take them....but thats just me of course.
