What do you drive? , by Richard on Dec 8, 2007 18:13:59 GMT 1, To be honest cars are a waste of money, spend your money on Bricks instead. Wise words...your always going to lose money on a flashy car, put your cash in bricks and art!
That depends on what value you put on the thrill of driving. And what's the point in have a bank balance that's rocketing in value if you decide not to spend anything?
Life is for living. As George Best said...he spent 90% of his money on fast cars, fast women and alcohol.....and wasted the other 10% ;D

Now that's an interesting direction to take the thread, pics of your first ever car (or pics from the internet of the make a model if not your actual car)
This was mine, Fiat Strada, it rusted to pieces and the electrics went, but pretty nippy with 5 gears and a 1500cc engine.

CBL.. always wondered what the difference was between a Fiat Strada and a Fiat Ritmo. Can you enlighten me?

ooooooo Jenson Interceptor, very nice, I've always fancied one of those too, it would be too expensive to keep going though. I've got a pair of vintage 1970's Gale 401 speakers, they were designed by the same guy who designed the car.
RE your Strada/Ritmo question, Fiat named the car Ritmo and pre-launched it as such here at a motor show in England, but found the name didn't go down very well, so they changed the name to Strada just because it sounded better in English. Strada means Road in Italian.

early models had squarish steering wheels! it never worked (of course) so they changed it for a round one.

What do you drive? , by seidbereit on Dec 8, 2007 19:35:27 GMT 1, .... RE your Strada/Ritmo question, Fiat named the car Ritmo and pre-launched it as such here at a motor show in England, but found the name didn't go down very well, so they changed the name to Strada just because it sounded better in English. Strada means Road in Italian. So they just rebadged them? This drove me mad at the time as I always just called them a Ritmo regardless of how often I was corrected - I was 100% certain there was a similar looking car called a Ritmo and stubbornly insisted that that was its name (even though they only ever seemed to have Strada badges on). Must have only been the very early ones then. Bloody Italians!! First car was an Uno btw. Straight out of college. Two weeks later I was swept off the road by joyriders in a Volvo and only just survived as Fiat apparently didn't really bother much with crumple zones etc. It just disintegrated. Naturally the lads in the Volvo were snug as bugs.. bastards, would never buy another Fiat ever... in fact the experience put me off cars practically altogether. Thanks for clearing up a long-standing misunderstanding though CBL!! ;D

What do you drive? , by top on Dec 8, 2007 19:37:33 GMT 1, Yeah, I have a 1997 Honda Accord (LX...the lowest end model with a 4 Cylinder engine...maybe 150 hp!) and it hasn't given me any problems since day one. I think I'm going to drive it to the ground, but was looking for a car to take me up to the mountains...probably not a SUV...am thinking the Suburu Outback. I wouldn't bother with an outback amin unless its inexpensive to buy as parts will probably be an issue if you intend on long term ownership! ..I drive a 'fezza' ..cue the jokes! haha! ford fiesta for those that dont know..

I haven't looked at them for years, but I know I've got some vintage stuff in a box somewhere at the back of the wardrobe, including ones on the DMC Delorean, first edition Range Rover, classic 70's and 80's Ferrari's etc

What do you drive? , by andrewd on Dec 8, 2007 22:06:29 GMT 1, Cann't find a picture but there used to be bed that was driven around West London! Had an old fashioned lampshade attached and appeared on a few TV shows.....ok it is saturday night but it really did happen. Honest! In the real world Beamer 5 series. Kids put paid to sportier models and as a few of you have said cars are a waste of money.
