DFace @ Black Rat, by sammyman on Mar 1, 2007 17:54:20 GMT 1, £350 sounds f**kin steep to me, but I expect he needs the money to set up this show next month.
£350 doesn't sound that steep to me considering the quality, size of the edition, and hand coloured by the artist, IMO

And compared with the going rate of Blek Le Rat's two latest prints from BRP.

DFace @ Black Rat, by Run Pig Run on Mar 1, 2007 18:29:20 GMT 1, yeah, but dog save the queen was signed and had hand painted wings: £75 death and glory was a signed edition of 50: £100 I think it's expensive, but it depends on what you earn i suppose and it did sell out in seconds so fair play to them.

Borf, then Banksy, then Dface.. and a good few before these lot. I don't think it detracts from the work, but difficult to hang em all in your house. Would be getting a tad morbid.
Keep in mind that Graf culture is a lot of the time based on people producing the same thing "letters" in a different way .. development of letters and the image has always come through trying to outdo what went before.. I se this as coming through that culture... it's pretty much the same with renaissance and religious painting. A long tradition..
Kinda like Dj scratching for pop art.. the basics (wakka wakka wak) = Skulls, Currency, Butterflies & Warhol..
Flag Raiser IMO Borf for being the first to print, Banksy for a stunningly well executed contemporary interpretation and Dface for the sheer skill, craft and technique.
What do others think ?

really looking forward to seeing this etching up close.
350 is a fair price i do like D's cleanliness/tidyness. the Hate's IMO are stunning if you like that sort of thing (lettering).

DFace @ Black Rat, by Pure Evil on Mar 1, 2007 23:46:17 GMT 1, Even the photograph of the original raising of the flag at Iwo Jima was a fake... the raising of the flag happened before the photographer arrived , so they had to re-create the event for the classic photo....
i guess there's a lot of skulls around at the moment because we are all consumed with thoughts of death, what with all these wars goin on...
or its just that skulls look really cool and we all have them so thats why they RULE..

DFace @ Black Rat, by rhinomilk on Mar 3, 2007 18:37:20 GMT 1, Just curious... When you look at "Death and Glory" do you think of D*Face? I don't really see any of his other works looking like this. I know people should get what they like, but does it affect a piece's longterm desirability if it seems out of the spectrum of their usual work?

Not his best work by far, but hey, any artist on BRP or POW could wipe their bottoms on a piece of paper and it would still sell out in 10 mins.. Saw it, didnt buy it, loosing no sleep..
