Blek Le Rat's Obama, by standrews on Nov 26, 2008 11:34:00 GMT 1, Your right, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this ain't beautiful. I wouldn't hang it my wall either. Neither would I hang Alberto Diaz Gutiérrez' s Che'...but millions of artifacts have been printed with Korda's image of him and that's the point often it can be something thats initially bland that is easily remembered. The 20 second sound-bite in art. Art-Bite..eh, I'll have to copyright that!

Blek Le Rat's Obama, by kennas on Nov 26, 2008 11:40:07 GMT 1, Totally agree with the sentiments here. Really liked some, if not most of the earlier work. He seems to now be going from bad to worse. Below average works unsold for months and months on BRP and now this.....

Blek Le Rat's Obama, by goffy on Nov 26, 2008 18:02:15 GMT 1, Of all the Obama's, Blek's will prove the most iconic.
No it wont. It will be quickly forgotten, as it should be. I doubt the yanks will go for a frenchman to make the most iconic image of their president. And the Red, White and Blue could be the french flag, which is more what it would look like if you laid them out next to each other.
For me, Choe's is the best one I have seen.

Blek Le Rat's Obama, by happyshopper on Nov 26, 2008 18:09:34 GMT 1, Blek should stick to the street. It's where he's strongest. I think this recent set of work is just about getting some money after all the years.

Blek Le Rat's Obama, by meatbag on Nov 26, 2008 20:04:25 GMT 1, I keep waiting for Blek to do something interesting and this makes me think the guy is genuinely at low point creatively. Bummer about these.

Blek Le Rat's Obama, by raiden on Nov 27, 2008 7:52:52 GMT 1, Blek's hit or miss. You still have to give him credit for what he has accomplished.
Similarly, Jaime Reed is turning out just so so stuff IMO too. So much of what he's doing now is retread of his former Sex Pistols glory.
Its sort of like if a group like the Rolling Stones were to come out with a new album today... It would probably be slightly dated sounding garbage with maybe has one or two good tracks, but you know it would never sell any copies if it wasn't for the name the Rolling Stones!
I will say, the last great Blek Print is on sale on eBay at the moment. If you're a Blek fan, this one is a great one. Its his Los Angeles 'Angel' print that's fucking huge. I got my hands on one and its a stunner. There were 18 of each colourway (total of 3) with 4 APs. Very pretty.

Blek Le Rat's Obama, by happyshopper on Nov 27, 2008 19:41:27 GMT 1, Thing is, all of his old art was great on walls, but prints were just a nice, signed thing you could put on your wall (but not really art in their own right). His new work is just made for print/canvas and fails to be anything. Shame.

Blek Le Rat's Obama, by Jef Aerosol on Nov 30, 2008 16:28:33 GMT 1, As some of you might have seen in another thread, in my solo show in Brussels, I display pieces about recent events such as the financial crisis and Obama's election. My portrait of B.O doesn't mean I'm a fan of his or believe his election will change things much, but I felt the event was tremendously important in the World's History : a black US president ! For me, Obama stands as a strong symbol and a bit of hope, doesn't he ? My "hope" Statue of Liberty is also about the same thing (when I first painted it a few months ago, she was spraying "Help !" instead of "hope" !), and my "black & blue" series is also a humble tribute to all black americans and to all black people on earth, our brothers and sisters who have suffered and gone thru so many ordeals for so long...
 "B.O", stencil on canvas, 50 x 50 cm
"hope", stencil on canvas, 195 x 114 cm
part of the "black & blue" series, stencils on canvas, 50 x 50 cm
more pics on my flickr,
peace out
