BLURRY MARY FINALLY ARRIVED!!!!!!, by manchestermike on May 17, 2008 18:26:40 GMT 1, I don't give a sh_t if people think think we're being ars_y about the packaging, all I know is I'm not happy so I'm taking it up with SOS.... End of thread? ?
Please post your reply from the nasty people who saved you a chunk of import duty and the inconvenience of having to arrange to pay your import duty before you got the piece.
Seems to me they can't win... if you got your box I'm sure we'd be hearing about having to pay import duty because of the fucking box and why couldn't they send it another way

BLURRY MARY FINALLY ARRIVED!!!!!!, by rosstierney on May 17, 2008 18:39:23 GMT 1, ALL THIS TALK ABOUT IMPORT TAX IS BULLs**t! ANY TAX IMPLICATIONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN SORTED OUT BEFORE PUTTING THE PRINT ON SALE & NOT DISCLOSED TO THE CUSTOMER. I WAS AWARE THEIR PRINTS ARE SHIPPED FROM ALMOST ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD BUT I WOULD NEVER EXPECT TO BE CHARGED IMPORT TAX AFTER BUYING FROM A UK (DEVON) BASED COMPANY!
now, if we were talking about a bast print i'd bought directly from them, i would appreciate them doing whatever it took for me to receive the print without incurring import tax, this includes scrapping a box i paid for

Any gallery or online shop or anyone for that matter who sends and buys all over the world knows about duty import tax. My point is that they sold a piece, which comes in โwooden crateโ and it did not!!! They could charge buyers any money they like and calculate their cost before they sent it. If they change the way the item is being sold, then they should inform the buyers before they send it, at least and explain why? It is the way they conducted themselves that p*** off most of the people and it should not happened. Quiet a few galleries recently getting their noses high up and stop caring about punters. I hope it does not end right up their a***s as they giving street art and artist a bad name...

BLURRY MARY FINALLY ARRIVED!!!!!!, by rosstierney on May 17, 2008 18:43:06 GMT 1, Q. How can someone sell a print that they don't physically hold/own? A. Act as a middle man, an agent. Again you've lost me... of course SOS physically held / owned the print...
for god sake mm, what's your problem?
how did they physically hold the print?
they're based in devon & if they physically held the print prior to release:
1. the tax implication wouldn't have been an issue
2. they would have known there was no "wonderful wooden creation"

I 100% agree that the customer is number one priority, I know it is in my businesses and I honestly think SOS were doing what they thought was best for their customers by saving them money...

I don't think they kept it quiet, it's public knowledge... to be fair if it's your first purchase from them maybe you wouldn't have know, but they've never kept it a secret. I'd say if you asked on here where are SOS based a huge majority would say Thailand.
The UK address is to save customers having to return anything to Thailand

BLURRY MARY FINALLY ARRIVED!!!!!!, by chablis on May 17, 2008 19:08:25 GMT 1, I think criticsm of SOS would be justified if we had been charged hundreds for shipping, we were not. We all agree they suggested it would be sent in a crate, but we also know they took time to work out how to send the print so it would not be liable to tax on arrival in th UK, so I understand there had to be change.
I have no interest in a wooden crate, what would I do with it? The print arrived in good condition and that is what concerns me. Mind you I could cut the stencil and spay out of the ply, it might actually be worth something.
I suggest anyone who is unhappy with the way they were 'treated' to boycott SOS in future, it will leave more stuff for the people who are more concerned with art than packaging.
The difference of a few pounds in either their favour or mine is really neither here mnor there.
If you do have a grievence with SOS, leave it to the emails with SOS.
And Ross, they have always been based in Thailand. Fairly widely known.

It's on their terms and conditions page - they say the prints could be shipped from anywhere in the world, including thailand.
You only have to read the archive page on their website to realise where they are based, or the charity page, or indeed any one of numerous threads on here...

100% agree. The most ridiculous moaning I have read on here for a while, and there is some stiff competition for that honour.

I am curious. Now you wouldn't buy from them because they are based in Thailand? SOS really go out of there way to make sure everyone is satisfied.
Remember it is a BOX. It is not an original box hand sprayed by Banksy is it?

BLURRY MARY FINALLY ARRIVED!!!!!!, by aladdinsane on May 17, 2008 19:53:03 GMT 1, I guess I'm the only one who thought "wonderful wood creation" meant we are sticking the print in some wood because the print cannot be rolled? I just thought they were being funny or sarcastic. I have never purchased a print based on the box it shipped in. Did this only become an issue because they said the original boxes would be used for a different project? I just want my stupid print to get to the states. I don't care if it's wrapped in tattered Arsenal jerseys and held together by the tears of scouse.

You should also know that they are not a huge operation so you will not neccesarily get immediate replies to E mails or next day deliveries. You should also take the time to read their website about the charitable work they do and funds they donate.
SoS are THE good guys in this scene. Yes they mess up now and again but they will try their very best to sort things out.
