Ian Francis ๐ฌ๐ง Bristol Artist โข New Paintings โข For Sale, by stuey09 on Jun 6, 2007 23:37:25 GMT 1, Slightly drunk, so thanks carlito. Glad I mad that point coherently. Think that there could be one or two Ian Francis baggers get left out to dry. His better prints will hold their value, similar to DB, but the avaerage pictures will struggle to sell on. Only my opinion though

Only my opinion though Hi Stuey
Yeh I've had a few myself so bear with me, I think Ian Francis will do well and could well do an Adam Neate, a different type of artist I agree and not in the street tradition but his images seem to have a certain power. Also I think that (and this sounds rather crap) that his prints are "pleasant" to look at, however I agree with your sentiment, but there are so many online gallery/resellers buying for a quick buck that it is hard for a genuinely interested buyer to get one, this adds to the panic and "the next big thing mentality" However one additional point, his originals are beginning to fly so it is possible the prints will follow a similar pattern. Regardless, as you know I'm all for the buy if you like it and buy if it is important. We are all just getting caught in a mad situation.

Ian Francis ๐ฌ๐ง Bristol Artist โข New Paintings โข For Sale, by alderevans2007 on Jun 6, 2007 23:50:02 GMT 1, I will admit that I may have thought twice about getting a red chopper if it wan't for this panic. But at the end of the day, its an edition of 25, a massive 70x70cm, excellent quality by the sound of it, and IMO a great looking print. I really like Ians stuff and I really fell like it belongs in this school of artists (micaleff, banksy, neate etc.) Therefore, 275 seems very good considering how much crap sells for so much money e.g beatiful losers, other pointless colourways and what not etc. "IMO". And if he joins lazinc, then all the better. This is how I am justifying the panic buy.
I do admit that I buy and sell prints, but this is to build a collection that I will enjoy. I just spent god knows how much on two prints by an illustrator called Miles Donovan. I probably couldn't shift them on the bay for 10% what I paid. But they are my pride and joy.

Ian Francis ๐ฌ๐ง Bristol Artist โข New Paintings โข For Sale, by romanywg on Jun 7, 2007 0:07:39 GMT 1, 70cm X 70cm and edition of only 25! If he really does sign with Laz I think these are going to skyrocket in value.
There is other criteria you should consider before buying. Like, do I like this print.

With all do respect I think I do consider if I like it or not before I buy it, but thanks for asking. I think I have invested a lot of money into prints hanging on my wall just as this one will. Although you are passing judgment on me without know why I buy art.

Ian Francis ๐ฌ๐ง Bristol Artist โข New Paintings โข For Sale, by ABC on Jun 7, 2007 7:16:55 GMT 1, I don't think there is going to be another Banksy for another decade now, the phenomenal price rises we have seen will make us collectors very happy in the future but buying other works thinking the same is going to happen is utter madness. As Zipp said Buy what you like and what you can afford to spend, If you know in a months time you are going to have to sell to pay the maxed CC then, why bother? you may lose money. But I do agree I also like Ian's work but the prints have been sitting there for a while and I never bought then so Im not tempted now. And what if Laz gets him, big deal IMO the Laz effect can't go on forever for every artist.

Well said ABC! I happened to meet up with someone from the light side last week who told me about Ian Francis, who I hadn't heard of before. I had a good look at his stuff but didn't like any of the available prints enough to buy ( I thought the sold out ones were good ) It's amazing that as soon as his work is mentioned on this site it goes in days. Lets see a few of them on get your Banksys out please!

Ian Francis ๐ฌ๐ง Bristol Artist โข New Paintings โข For Sale, by matbat on Jun 7, 2007 7:52:08 GMT 1, Im really chuffed i got one of these 25 edition Giclee. Ive never seen a giclee before so im rather excited. I think the price is good compared to mr neate (who i love) and Mr Micallef (who in my opinion is overated). I mean i do love the LAZ prints but most of those other prints are so basic it hurts. Light Angel bombers et al look like they were done in charcoal in about 10 minutes and i think Ians work carries more weight. I cant wait to see his L.A exhibits. Thanks to all for helping me find this artist.

Ian Francis ๐ฌ๐ง Bristol Artist โข New Paintings โข For Sale, by notitle on Jun 7, 2007 12:54:47 GMT 1, I see campbarbara has increased the price of his Ian Francis prints, I wonder why? I love the way he contributes so much to these forums by getting involved in discussing the artists that he so obviously loves and discovered. Oh wait that's right he didn't discover any of "his" artists. The word parasite springs to mind.
i think he was banned

When there was talk of Micallef Angel Bombers being a good deal on his site at 1200 the price went up within a day to 1500. He doesn't talk, he just reads. Look at the amount of views this thread has had - a lot more than many other recent thread in this section and the view numbers increased dramatically once the 2nd Ian Francis print sold out. The fact of the matter is that the majority of people reading this right now aren't reading it because they're Ian Francis fans, it's in hope that they can make some easy money out of an artist whose work it will now be a lot more difficult to get hold of.
Totally agree with you user, especially the second part of your comment. But unfortunately I think that's the way things are these days.

Ian Francis ๐ฌ๐ง Bristol Artist โข New Paintings โข For Sale, by bennybenben on Jun 7, 2007 13:28:25 GMT 1, Yeah, I agree with your comments user. I had not seen Ian's work until this thread, I must admit. I'd have actually liked to have bought one of his giclee's on redpropeller. I think several on there are really beautiful pieces at a fair price for a signed piece in such a small edition size.
Personally, and I'm sure there are plenty of others feeling exactly the same, I'd have liked to have buy to put on my wall and enjoy. Not to sell on. Those of us feeling like this have now had our chance ruined by the flippers who I, despite still liking the pieces, shall not be held to ransom by.
I'm not surprised, don't get me wrong; we all know this will happen, though I am a little surprised it has off the back of, seemingly, this forum and this thread alone.

Ian Francis ๐ฌ๐ง Bristol Artist โข New Paintings โข For Sale, by johnas on Jun 7, 2007 13:31:39 GMT 1, you make a valid point user. i think it's niiave to think that lurkers aren't watching this forum closely to see what is 'hot gossip'. I learnt a long time ago not to post things that may be of interest to the majority of members, because of this issue - as you say, sad but true
as for campbarbara/frankie - my understanding is he's been banned so can't contribute to this forum. However, i know he does contribute on the 'light' side because he can.
The real issue here is not Campbarbara but instead, the many people out there who do not contribute in ANY sense of the word and do just bleed the forums of info for their own gains.

Ian Francis ๐ฌ๐ง Bristol Artist โข New Paintings โข For Sale, by alderevans2007 on Jun 7, 2007 13:43:03 GMT 1, Too be fair, there have been few comments on this thread to indicate that people are only interseted in making quick cash. We never knew how many prints were left on red propeller and theres no reason why thay haven't just been snapped up by people genuinley interested in his work. After all, they were only editions of 25 and they are great prints IMO.
I had never really heard of Ian Francis before this thread. I then looked at the image, decided I really liked it, then bought it. Maybe thats what lots of people did. Maybe they haven't just gone to baggers. As I said, there is nothing to suggest this.
Maybe I'm just being naive. Maybe we will see loads on ebay.

Also worth noting that he is very friendly with loads of the artists themselves which must say something.

Ian Francis ๐ฌ๐ง Bristol Artist โข New Paintings โข For Sale, by Friendly Ghost on Jun 8, 2007 1:19:09 GMT 1, Though conversation seems to have shifted to the prints from red propeller, if anyone is interested in the earlier prints (with the larger print run) that are available at several places...
If you go to collectorsprints.co.uk (which already has the lowest prices for those prints) you seem to be able to get 15% more off the price by putting it in your basket and typing in CLUB15 into the special offer code box. The code's not listed on the site anymore as it was earlier, but it looks like it still works.
Here's the link to the four Ian Francis pieces... www.collectorsprints.co.uk/search_results.php?keyword=ian%20francis
