NEW ARRIVAL - BIGFATCHOE!, by jon11 on Sept 1, 2008 19:30:44 GMT 1, Hello all - dont know if you remember but a while ago i generally sounded out the vibe on Choe at the moment, was a mixed response and a lot of negativity - but i love the guy's work - i think he's genius and leagues above most others, a handful of masters - parla, neate, micallef, choe - of course the Banks man - that's my dream team - lovin Hera at the moment too....
anyway i fucked all the advice went with my heart and bought something i love...
here's my big fat Choe - 2 pieces fat as your mother and as dirty too - fresh from the streets, slightly restored and ready for my lounge
they are huge - theres me in one to give you an idea of the scale
i have no pics of them nx to each other at the mo but i'll get one when i get them in situ
THEY MAKE ME SMILE ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
ENJOY! - how f**king sweet are these?!?!?!?!?
ALSO arrived today - from Edgeart - my Mcf**ked print - couldn't take it with me on the night - thanks mike - sweet as and superbly packaged - love it!
thinking about hanging it opposite the jack and jill in the lounge - good one to spark conversation and amusement
CHEERS ALL! ENJOY ;D

The McFucked print is a grower as well - if you're now in need of some cash I'd happily take the J&J off your hands
Great collection

I spoke to the guy in the shop just after it went and he said he was changing things around and it was going to be painted over / replaced so he was happy that someone had offered to buy it off him...
I'd thought about it myself, snooze and lose though

Yeah however much i'd have loved to get my hands on the choe, there's just no way i'd have room for the bugger!
It's getting hard enough as it is finding room for any small bits without turning my place into an overcrowded gallery!

NEW ARRIVAL - BIGFATCHOE!, by lee3 on Sept 1, 2008 21:14:58 GMT 1, Jon:
Congrats, I've always thought that was one of DC's cooler street compositions. Gotta love Munko dressed in a cardigan with his buck tooth. I must say I've never met anyone else that had both Choe and Ramos in their collection so we think alike. Are the Hubba Hubba's lithographs or are they on steel as I've seen them both ways. Nice work and definitely a famous Choe. enjoy!

NEW ARRIVAL - BIGFATCHOE!, by lee3 on Sept 2, 2008 2:27:05 GMT 1, >>>my ramos collection is fairly extensive - was obsessive at one point - he's what got me into the collecting scene and specifically prints, love em!
what you got lee? <<<
Mine isn't a large collection but have had the pleasure of many dinners with Mel and Leta as well as a few lunches too. We got a tour of Mel's studio about 3 or 4 years ago when we commissioned a painting with my wife. He did a 40x30 inch canvas of her on profile standing next to a box of blueberry pop tarts with an orange to pink fade in the background. It's a jaw dropping painting and my wife and Mel have been close ever since. This is one of the canvases we choose to keep private for rather obvious reasons.
We've heard so many crazy stories of he and Thiebaud back in the day and the rest of the pop artist and parties in the 60s. Mel has a ridiculous collection as those artists just traded canvases with each other all the time. I put him second to only Ralph Goings (whom Mel taught) for watercolor. The last we spoke (July) I asked about a graphite on paper because his command of the fundamentals is mind blowing. He agreed to do one but I dropped the ball and haven't spoken with him or his dealer since- maybe this conversation is the kick in the pants i need.
Anyway, the brunette model you have on Hubba Hubba is one of my favorites as he did an amazing Peek a boo (keyhole) painting of her as well as numerous other too. He's definitely one of the best and now that I think about it I have some old photos of his studio that i should toss on flickr. I'll repost a link later this week if i get around to it.
