ANOTHER THANKS...FOR PREFAB, by ElectrikSheep on Jul 11, 2008 22:13:41 GMT 1, Wow....that was quick JBoy...well framed in record time!? Great shots to show people how it looks too, our gallery one is just clipped this time so it's great someone's showing how it looks framed too.
The meaning behind most of their work relates to English history / "iconography" / culture (the decay of)?, but I won't try to explain too much, they explain it better themselves!
Good effort JBoy

no, culture is what we do, what we read, what we listen to, what we discuss. a phonebox is a phonebox, is a phonebox.

culture is what we do, what we are, not what we use. yes it is uniquely british but it's not culture, come on? same as a postbox or even big ben, they do not constitute culture.

ANOTHER THANKS...FOR PREFAB, by duncanfearnley on Jul 11, 2008 23:22:23 GMT 1, you may think you know everything jboy, you don't.
"cul-ture, noun, verb, -tured, -turยทing. the quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in arts, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits, etc. "
all of this bullsh*t because i dared to disagree and that not everyone loves everything you do. welcome to the real world, do join us.
i've made my point, i can't believe i'm getting involved in this. pathetic.

sadly i must spell it out for the remedial child, oasis and the "beetles" are culture as they are artists that produce a body of work, unlike an inanimate object like a fuckin' telephone box.
beyond this i cannot help you i'm afraid, it needs a specialist.

ANOTHER THANKS...FOR PREFAB, by felix on Jul 11, 2008 23:31:54 GMT 1, I would argue that this is part of our culture, it represents us - for example whenever there is an American film depicting England it will always have a man in a bowler hat speaking in a red phonebox with an old school double decker bus driving past.

ANOTHER THANKS...FOR PREFAB, by ricobenfico on Jul 12, 2008 1:03:50 GMT 1, ;D Well, another print bought through this forum. We see negative talk on occasions from some posters. I'll add to it...it's costing me a fortune! Seriously, this is what it's all about, seeing something you like that someone else bought that you may not have come across elsewhere. Cheers all...

ANOTHER THANKS...FOR PREFAB, by Heavyconsumer on Jul 12, 2008 2:27:49 GMT 1, I don't give a monkey's what it says in the dictionary, imo (call me ignorant, but in this case my opinion will not be changed) red phone-boxes are a part of English culture, along with that underground logo, double-decker buses (old stylee ones) and red letter-boxes. The pre-listed are iconic designs that are strongly identifiable as English and part of what makes our country distinctive. What could be more cultural? If they're reprasentational of the country, in the minds of both Brits and foreigners alike, then I consider them part of our culture.
Food like fish 'n chips, bangers 'n mash, roast beef with Yorkshire pud' and Stilton Ploughman's must be part of the culture, yet it is all pretty inanimate isn't it?
Great print, very culturally indicative and I think I have to go and buy one now! Thanks for the heads up JB.
