Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by dogant on May 30, 2008 13:02:22 GMT 1, Dogant, firstly nice to meet you, again. (This fella is hardcore and almost always first in every queue). Please don't blame Hush for any of this, it was totally down to the Gallery and Hush was as confounded as most people on here. The artists just paint the pieces and have nothing to do with the organisation of the shows. The two guys that were with me were actually let in by Hush himself who saw them at the door and told them they should go inside. They have been buyers of his art from the early days and subsequently that gives them priority as they have backed him from the start, that's how it works. If you buy early on in someones career you are looked after later on down the line. What I found baffling was that people just paid for their prints and just left, not even glancing at the art on the walls. Just goes to show what people were actually there for when just over 100 people have looked at all the photos I took on the night. For the guy to shout off outside and then go home without even stepping inside the gallery shows you the sad case of the scene and the way it's heading.
romanywg - good to meet you too, lets hope next time we meet I will be in a better mood!
As for your friends...I understand there is a priority of purchase - there always will be .....I also understand that given the chance...most would take up the offer of early entry.
My point regarding Hush is he should have managed the gallery better... ie. get some goals on what goes and what stays before the show opens, taking into account the people in the Q and the hype for the show.
Take the NW show - I know a few people who where allowed in pre-show and they came out with nothing - because it had all sold. What happened after that, is BRP and NW restock the show for the Qing public.
This has to be the way forward and I feel Hush has to take some responsibilty for the way events happened - especially as the genral public had been advised that some prints where being kept back for his friends and family by Opus.
If Hush then arrived to find out that the gallery had pre-sold to gallery friends etc - Hush would have been utra pissed and then wanted to look after friends in the Q (again - understandable).
Anyway....this will be my last word on the subject and will not post anything further regarding the show.
As for the Hush print - amazing. As for the body of work in the show - again, quality.
For me...the end.

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by Matt-lock on May 30, 2008 13:07:43 GMT 1, I think people would rather have a comment from 'the three stooges' than look at work they missed out on!
Well judging by the numerous requests to see pics in the previous pages I disagree. It's understandable that people are upset but me posting some pics of the show isn't something to be upset about...

yeah! - stop spamming this thread with pictures of the art ;D
although there have now been a fair amount of pics of the art - including Romany's great set on Flickr - however as far as comment from 'the three stooges' goes - the silence is deafening...

I don't think the artist has that sort of control, I may be wrong. Be really good to hear from Opus on this.

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by jed100375 on May 30, 2008 14:03:13 GMT 1, Seems they are not only crap at organising a show but also at apologising!!.........
Quote 'Opus'........
We understand that a lot of people were disapointed after last night but unfortunatly the demand for the artists work suprised us we tried to make it as fair as possible so much so we moved a print release forward to make sure everybody could get something.
All gallerys have buyers night it's so people who have bought the artists work early on can still buy pieces. There was still work available at the start of the show and people could commision work if they wanted.
It was also unacceptable the level of agression directed at our staff over what was supposed to be an exhibition of work that the to guys have been working very hard on.
I'm sorry that you were disapointed with the way things were managed.
All the best,
Anthony

Wasn't Anthony spotted at a recent Laz Newcastle show, drinking the complimentary booze and then attempting to discretely leave a bunch of Opus Underground flyers in the gallery?
That tells everything one needs to know about the man, really.

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by swedishgirl on May 30, 2008 14:22:35 GMT 1, I would like to add my 10 crowns worth:
1. The queue was poorly managed. The usual aggresive c**t turned up and pushed their way in at 6.30pm. Nice for those of us there since early afternoon.
2. Complete lack of information. Once inside I was told I could get a Geisha Girl print. 2.5 hours later I was told it was a samurai print, ยฃ150 deposit non-refundable.
That is what really pisses me off... And if anybody believes it was just friends and fans who got the pre-sale prints, then explain this: search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=hush+geisha
We know who has put these on the board. The aggressive 40 year old c**t who pushed in.

I agree that this is the only way to manage artists through galleries, but is an unspoken rule that Opus completely disregarded when they reassured people on the forum that there would be a lot of work available for all to buy, and then presold all bar one canvas and the vast majority of prints. For me the issue isn't at all about allowing buyers in early, as this has to be how it works, but the sheer naiviety in the preshow publicity on the forum.

Where are you quoting opus from Jed? - did you email them and was this their response? - they don't seem to have posted on the forum since yesterday - although they have logged on a few times today...

But aren't the eBay prints being sold by Hush's mates, the ones that didn't have to queue?
Should we not be supporting them (since this allows us to, whether directly or indirectly, support the artist as well)?

I don't know - I think the knock on Hush's reputation will have an effect on his secondary market prices. I was put off attempting to buy one at cost price due to integrity issues so I think people will be weary of dropping a lot of cash for these...only time will tell I guess.

Oh I'm not sure whether or not this "controversy" will have an effect on his prices or not. Possibly. BUT to come up with a plan to say "hey everyone, let's all agree not to bid so that prices stay low" is nonsense.
1) not everyone who wants those pieces posts on here or would see the "Call for action" 2) if it was at an extremely low price minutes before end, trust me, more than a handful of people that might agree to this deal would back out and start bidding at the hopes of getting a bargain.
I personally think far too much weight is being put on all of these happenings, but that's just my opinion and if it means I can possibly score some of Hush's work for cheaper in the near future, then I'm all for it!

yeah I agree such a plan would be unworkable - but I think there will be less demand generally as I'm sure I'm not the only one to be influenced by these happenings. I would never want to give my hard earned to someone who was willing to take the piss out of his customers and fans like that - and if it doen't bother people and they are still happy to buy his work then good luck to them - they can have it. There won't be any Hush going in my collection so there's at least one less person wanting to bid for it.

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by Happy Shopper on May 30, 2008 16:24:58 GMT 1, I wasn't there, and I feel your pain... but I think people need to relax a bit !!
It's common sense that prints will go to friends first. Friends of the artist, agent, gallery, etc. It's also par for the course for originals to be presold. No shock. If you choose to queue, you know there's a risk of missing out. It happens all the time.
There'll be more Hush and Copyright prints... and I'm sure there's plenty of other artists releasing prints equally good every day. We all win some and lose some !
Just be glad that Opus are doing their best, even if you don't think their best is very good !

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by Daniel Silk on May 30, 2008 16:54:36 GMT 1, All I know is that 4 accounts were found all with the same IP address. Those were Hush, Mainartery, Ollys and UAC. This does NOT mean they are the same person.Accusations being made about Opus are totally unfounded as far as I can see. This is the only information I have, and has only been released due to peoples concerns, and is totally inline with the agreements that all members sign up to when they join any proboards forum. That's not completely true, is it Silky? You also know the email addresses registered to those four accounts. If you are defending Hush by implying he did not try to deceive forum members and that the four accounts with the same IP address correspond to four different people, then they should be registered to four different email addresses. Sounds logical? Although he could have got in trouble for it, a mate of mine at ProBoards looked into these four usernames as a favour to me. What he found was that they were registered to fewer than four email addresses. A rather curious discovery. Can you confirm this is correct?
Im not defending anyone!
And I can confirm that all four of the accounts have DIFFERENT email addresses, so it appears your friend is wrong

I'd be willing to put a wager that I will not, in fact, be able to get a red graf geisha for cost on ebay.
Must say I hope you're right though!

Good meeting you last night. The last hour of waiting went by much quicker than the first two. ;D

Copyright / Hush - The queue rumours..., by atomone on May 30, 2008 17:34:48 GMT 1, Hey silvermyn! good to meet you too, top man! I think the samurai was wortha gamble personally, opus say it's based on the graff geisha (of which I really wanted) so he who dares wins I guess! all will be revealed in 6 weeks! for all Opus's faults I spoke to Don last night who runs the gallery and he seemed like a nice guy, they were genuinely shocked by the demand of the shows works and the idea of the new 'unseen' print was a chance for those who missed out to purchase a simular version with the same run of 50...only it's a samurai! it is a gamble but if the geisha is anything to go buy then it's worth a shot in my opinion...it could be a disaster but sometimes ya just gotta trust yer instinct and all that!
