Paul Insect • Dead Cow Prints, by headphonesex on Aug 2, 2007 18:34:35 GMT 1, not a fan...maybe if there was only 1 colorway released I would have a different opinion, but I immediately am putoff when I see 6 colorways for a single image.
So you don't like the 29 Soup Tin colourways?
I think the Insect cow print is excellent, particularly the gold one, and obviously if you're doing a Warhol pastiche jobby you have to do it in colourways.
If he'd done a run of 300 prints in one colour he'd have got no grief, yet do runs of 50 in 5 different colours and he gets a shit kicking?
I don't see what the problem is to be honest. I think it's a good quality image and if you have the space for it, having three different colourways lined up gives a bitching nice effect.

Paul Insect • Dead Cow Prints, by finsburyparkranger on Aug 2, 2007 18:38:43 GMT 1, Do you not like him as an artist or just this image?
I like fair bit of his work but love none of it. I like the intricate pieces involving animals and insects, like a dark twisted fairly tale. But this piece is dire in my book. There's nothing more tired than an artist using Warhol now unless you're Banksy commenting that a new generation has been born and is alive and kicking. Its already been said, in a much more positive way.

Old concept. warhol has had his arse torn by tons of artists, even Gavin Turk gave it a go a few weeks ago at his new show and you could say the same for images using oil and blood and famous logos we all know too well, anarchists have had there versions of these images for years. But maybe not with money in the background...

Also I wouldn't say they would really brighten up a room either, purely on a base level. EDIT: DId you get one Curley?
No but i do like the one's i saw at laz gallery up close and are quality prints.

That this is a riff on Warhol's Marilyn Monroe series, not just visually, but in the sense that Marilyn is now a dead cow.

Paul Insect • Dead Cow Prints, by twigboy on Aug 2, 2007 18:55:57 GMT 1, How about this for nerd... in the corner of the print I saw at laz was a water mark showing through the print. Arches 88 it said... obviously the paper maker... so having done a bit of searching around I found that Warhol used Arches 88 paper on quite a few of his prints (its a French, or Devon based paper mill, I can't remember now) Cotton based paper... anyway, they always say its in the detail...

Yeah, I think it was great when Warhol did it, but how many Warhol pastiche jobbies do we need from artists?
And I don't mind the image so much...it's not my favorite but I don't dislike it all. I was just pointing out that artists doing the multiple colorways is getting a bit tiresome which I think a lot of people here would agree with.

spot on..
you wont get many on here bashing banksy for producing multiple 'warhol-related' colourways of his soupcans, yet insect is slated.. take a look at the gold cow in person and you will see why I think its class..
as someone said insect is making a valid comment on the death of modernism and maybe also originality, and executed really well I think
for the full effect paper your room in gold cows like Laz's back room
