GRAFTER Editions Release Thursday 12th June , by Blind Angle on Jun 8, 2008 12:31:47 GMT 1, Dear Ladies and Gents
Thursday 12.06.2008 around 11.30AM UK (London) time we will be releasing the "Forgotten, More Than Most" canvas and paper editions from London based artist Grafter.
We will announce on our homepage when these are available.
Here are some details:
"Forgotten, More Than Most" (canvas) Spray paint on canvas; Edition of 10 (2 Artist Copies) Signed & Numbered; Size: 50 x 76 x 4cm; 2008 Price (£): 250 (including UK shipping)
"Forgotten, More Than Most" (paper) Spray paint on Arches88 300gsm paper with deckled edges; Edition of 50 (5 Artist Copies) Signed, Dated & Numbered; Size: 56 x 76cm; 2008 Price (£): 95 (including UK shipping)
The sales are strictly 1 pr. customer and we will on a first come first serve basis. To give everybody a fair chance of purchasing a work we will not be taking any pre-release orders or reservations. Should you be interested in purchasing a canvas, but would be interested in a paper edition copy if you are not among the first 10 to order a canvas, please state so in your order. Successful buyers will be notified within 24 hours.
Also Blind Angle will not be selling any of the Artist Copies as these are for the artist to do with as he sees fit!
Purchases can be made via: sales@blindangle.co.uk
Some more pictures!
On a more personal note I can say that this was the first Grafter stencil I saw in the flesh and I fell for it right away. Although using only black and white I think the artist manages to capture the essence of his subjects and the detail of the faces, especially around the eyes really brings out the mood of the person portrayed.
Grafter has gotten himself a studio space (so the kids have got their playroom back!) and he is currently preparing new work to be shown in a group show in a Cork Street gallery in London in August 2008. The show is being organized be Urban Angel Gallery.
Kind Regards
Ragnar

I had an AP of one of Shep Faireys which was an edition of 2. That was a screenprint onto metal.

I wondered that too.... the fella who posted pics of an L.E.T. piece last week looking for framing suggestions also referred to his as an AP even though it was all hand-sprayed on metal or wood or something similar.
Strange.

GRAFTER Editions Release Thursday 12th June , by Blind Angle on Jun 8, 2008 13:10:06 GMT 1, Hi seidbereit
Here is how I see it and how the works are labelled.
For the canvasses/paper editions the numbered editions is limited to 10/50. The other two/five pieces are for the artist to use for his own purposes, to use for exhibitions, to have in his own collection or on his wall. He can also choose to give them away or sell them if he so wishes. The condition we set when agreeing on the editions is that the artist does not make any identical pieces to these for sale in the future.
This is also our commitment to our customers.
Whatever else the artist chooses to make with the image (read stencil) in the future i think is solely up to the artist.
Regards
Ragnar

Ahhh... sorry. I first assumed you were also going to be selling the artist copies too! In that case fair enough (commendable even) that it's clear there are further copies out there.

GRAFTER Editions Release Thursday 12th June , by Blind Angle on Jun 8, 2008 17:03:10 GMT 1, Hi Guys
.......that cold beer in the hot sun was just what the doctor ordered!
First thank you for your positive replies!
About the "Eskimo". Grafter is currently doing this piece as a canvas only and as an open but numbered edition. This means that when he is tired of it he will stop making any more. If this will be after 10 or a zillion only he knows (and he will correct me if i'm wrong !-)) and as moleman says just drop him a line! Currently we have no plans of releasing any other works than the ones described above, but as my old father would say "Tad er ilt at spaaa um framtidina" (meaning "who knows").
All the best
Ragnar

i always thought you could have an ap (artists poof??) of anything that has an edition size (ie not one-off!), the first one (or few) for the artist to keep and check the run will work the way he wants it before commencing the entire edition??

GRAFTER Editions Release Thursday 12th June , by Grafter on Jun 8, 2008 19:01:09 GMT 1, To clarify: There are 10 numbered and signed canvases to be sold through Blind Angle. There are another 2 copies made which I haven't even signed yet. I will be keeping 1 and the other I am giving away to my brother. There will be NO MORE copies made. The 10 for sale on Thursday will be the ONLY copies made public.
I hope that clears it up, but if you have any more questions just PM me and I'll try to answer them the best I can.
As for the 'Eskimo Child' image: This has proved to be a very popular image and I decided to only take commisions for canvases from people who have bothered to contact me direct. I felt this would mean that they only went to peolpe who genuinely wanted one and would do away with the F5 lottery and the likleyhood of flippers getting hold of them. I tried to keep the price competetive and sold them as a Signed and Numbered Open Edition. Everyone who bought one was told that there woud probably be no more than 20 issued, and I still remain commited to that number. As of now I have sold 12 and have another 2 under offer. There may be a print run in the near future but no plans are yet finalised.
I have several releases coming up in the next few weeks and then it will go very quiet for a while as I prepare for the Urban Angel Group Show in August.
Thank you to everyone who has taken an intrest in my work. It's a very exciting time for me at the moment and I am trying to do my best to make sure everyone get's a chance to own my stuff at a reasonable price.
Be Lucky

Hi eddie
I agree with your views on AP's.
Just to add my 5 pennies about the difference between Artist Proofs and Artist Copies as i see them. Artist proofs to me are early prints of say a screen print run that the artist checks out to see if they are to his satisfaction.
Artist copies could be from anywhere in the creation of a limited edition and are extra copies that belong to the artist for the future.
My wife who makes quite large sculptures that typically are editions of 6 usually retains the right to produce two artist copies. This means that if and when the edition sells out she still has the opportunity to exhibit the work in shows such as non-commercial museum shows etc.
As a gallery (an humble online one!) we have as a principle that we do not sell the AP's or AC's of the editions we release for reasons mentioned earlier, but i think it is very important to inform the customers that these (and how many) are in existence.
When we were working on the "Sitting Kid" screen print edition with Jef Aerosol we had several initial test prints and proofs (all with imperfections) before we arrived at a satisfactory result. I asked Jef if he thought that he should customize them and sell them as special versions. Jef replied that he thought that this would water down the edition and that they should rather be kept as they were to document the printing process. So at the end of the day we kept 10 of these and labeled them AP 1-10. The remaining test prints were all destroyed. The AP's of "Sitting Kid" were then given to some of Jef's friends and people who helped with the organization of the "Spray it loud" exhibition. I think Jef taught me a good lesson (only one of many:-)).

GRAFTER Editions Release Thursday 12th June , by Karl Read on Jun 9, 2008 11:50:09 GMT 1, I really like Grafters stuff, the only thing that bothers me is the sig, it's a bit to big IMO, on the canvas's and on the prints. Id much prefer just a hand signed sig. That aside his work is looking sweet!
