It's on brass because I fancied doing something different, I love working on metal anyway and different surfaces, just all part of the experimentation I guess

Thanks for that SILKY, to be honest, I tend not to do commissions, as it is I turn down at least one a month as I usually find them a bit limiting (a lot of people just want a remix of an old painting) All the models I work with are people I know and love (or me) so I guess thats what interests me when I am painting them as a subject, it can be hard to get someones personality accross on canvas when you hardly know them. Although never say never

So..... everything has it's price in other words!? ;D Just kidding mate.
I really like the style you've used here. Very different to what I'm used to seeing from you too. And actually, even better imho. I'd be very interested to see you do more "real" painting, for want of a better phrase.
Just one thing though, about the brass. Doesn't it go green and tarnish over time? Would that happen to brass with paint on it (probably not as I'm guessing it's the gas in the air that causes it - Oxygen or something else perhaps) and particularly the areas where the brass shows through? Any clue?

Ha ha not at all, more depends on the person I would be painting
With regards to Brass and tarnishing, I did my research and was told as long as it's kept in a warm, dry environment (ie home) then the brass will be fine. Apparently it is pretty resistant to tarnishing/discolouration. Tends to be copper that goes crazy and ends up covered in verdigris.
I will definitely be doing more "real" painting, today in fact
thanks for your comments

Chose to go without the glasses, wanted to do a really stripped back portrait concentrating on the face, thought it might detract from the eyes

Ha ha I do like to surprise, I guess this is the sad thing about all of the stencil and spray work i have done, it's meant I have neglected painting and drawing for a while now. It's always good to come back with a bang

I have a nice piece of aged steel that I have been saving for a suitable furniture project, but seeing as you like different mediums and are local to me are you interested in it?
When I say aged, I mean it is sheet steel that has a complete surface rust covering it. ;-) Sam

Hi Sam, I am well aware I am looking far from good! Live paint went well thanks and feedback on the print has been great. Shame you couldn't make it down.
Love the idea of the rusty metal, will PM you

Will be doing a 6 x 6ft portrait piece like this at UPFEST, will be pretty nerve wracking but I can't wait

I think that is the attitude to have when it comes to realism or portraiture, keep up the work.. that self portrait is pretty interesting

Thank you, I do find it tough turning down commissions, especially in the current climate! However for me it's just not something I feel I can take on at this very moment, especially painting a complete stranger. Just not sure how successful it would be as a painting devoid of any emotional attachment
