Once again rourke I wasn't digging at you..I think your a very talented artist and wish you all the best. I just think people should give a better analysis about work, rather than the one sentence 'I like it' comments that keep popping up to every new piece of art someone like yourself produces
Thanks mate, like I said, I know you wasnt having a go. its good when people ask things like that, and I wish more would. It drags more innner thoughts out of me, which I normally keep hidden away in my Nut. May be I should try and explain things a bit more in future, I don't like expressing myself with words though.

I don't see the issue. There are thousands of members in here, some may take more simplistic views of art than others. I know for a fact that I often do! Art IMO is about generating a response and there's no law that states it MUST be an intellectual one so far as I'm aware.
I often buy a piece, just because, wait for it........, I LIKE IT! Shock horror! ;D Sometimes, it's only after I live with a piece that the reasons I liked it initially become clear to me. To each his own, but I think it's cool that a simple "I like it" can be fed back to an artist thus telling him/her that the piece generated a positive response on some level, whatever that may mean to the individual viewer. That IMO, is the very essence of art - seeing a piece and reacting honestly to it, whatever the response.

I have to agree with heavy, personally I appreciate any response. It's just not everyones way to give a critique or try to be insightfull and perhaps a simple thumbs up is all they want to give. having said that I also appreciate someone taking time to provide constructive criticism or just elaborate on why a piece appeals to them. (or doesn't as the case may be!)

Latest Pollocks, by Heavyconsumer on Aug 24, 2009 19:30:13 GMT 1, I think that because this is a Banksy forum, people assume that art needs to stimulate intellectually or have literal meaning, in other words, make us think or consider either the art itself, or something in the world, which an artist chooses to draw attention to. However I don't think this need be the case for us to each be stirred by an image or have a reaction to it. It might be a personal connection on a cognitive or subliminal level or even just something that makes us feel a certain emotion at first glance. I don't think ALL art NEEDS to be critically evaluated IN ORDER to be enjoyed/appreciated. I think that's what I wanted to say above. This most certainly applies to more abstract forms of art, where I believe much of the "expert" jargon is often unnecessary. Imo, it's about a personal response on any level at all. Sometimes, "I like it" covers that response adequately and doesn't need to be fully understood or justified.

You make valid points, although to me there is a lot of art on this forum that is just pretty pictures and nothing more. If an artist is going to take my money I at least want to know some thought process has gone onto the work im going to be buying. Im going to leave this thread now as I feel im beginning to repeat myself
PEACE

Latest Pollocks, by robotbad on Aug 25, 2009 11:50:19 GMT 1, the question i have to ask is why produce art that's been done a million times before, feels like it and can be bought from any art fair/stall etc etc in the country?
Is this progress for an artist?
or was it all about the 'witty' title?

Thanks for your input robotbad
They might of been done a million times b4, but not by me. I don' think theres nowt wrong with doing something that has been done before, as long as it isnt a complete rip off and you can take it in another direction develop it more and put your own stamp on it.
I don't just do these, as I said earlier in the post, I started to produce these to be an affordable original people could have in these hard times. In all my work, I hopefully progress in every peice I do. If I didnt I would probably pack it in.
Cheers
