Hajime Sorayama 🇯🇵 Sexy Robot • Kaws • Art For Sale , by Deleted on Jul 25, 2019 17:30:45 GMT 1, It's crazy. Original sources had Sorayama prints available for cheap for YEARS! Now they are all gone. Just about a year ago you could have purchased his prints for extremely cheap prices.
He has been around for a long time and it's crazy to see his popularity explode these past few years. Once the Dior hype drops a little I'm wondering if his market drops down again. He hasn't done anything really new in decades it seems. He was very popular in Japan a while back but I'm not so sure anymore.

Having said that the slow burning Artists are often the best IMO. The same could be said about Carmen Herrera. Sorayama is much more than Dior. He's a legend and from what I can see that isn't abating. Especially in Japan.

The same people want it that buy most case now.. collectors that are just putting all this into storage and displaying very little, with the idea of having large 1 time art auction in the future.. that's what that company has become. I never see even 10% of a release on display

Hajime Sorayama 🇯🇵 Sexy Robot • Kaws • Art For Sale , by Deleted on Jul 25, 2019 21:32:48 GMT 1, Prints aren’t really what sorayama is about., Even the most naive art eye can work that out surely?
Huge collab with Christian Dior and this forum decided he’s irrelevant.. 😂😂
I got the Midas touch hand because I wasn’t snoozing like the rest of you.
Keep on trucking

Hajime Sorayama 🇯🇵 Sexy Robot • Kaws • Art For Sale , by Express Post on Jul 25, 2019 22:19:49 GMT 1, Congrats. These were tough to get. People are upset cuz they missed out on the flip. 3-4x the very least. The Dior collab didn't sell that well. A lot of the Sorayama saddle bags were given away because they sold so poorly. I don't think it changed anything for his market. Like he ain't killing it at Christie's, Sotheby's of Phillips. I secured mine through Nanzuka because I already buy a lot of Haroshi sculptures from them. They are the best!

Agree with all of it.. the Dior range was very catwalk and hard to use in everyday life. BUT Dior don’t collab with nobodies.
If you can hook me up a Haroshi that would be sweet! They Are fire!

No but all the noobie collectors, who are being fooled by Dior hype and know nothing about Sorayama, think they are discovering a new and up coming artist. This is a mistake. He’s been around forever and his art hasn’t changed in decades. To me this was easy way out for Dior. Dior is going to end up cheaping it’s brand name by using these Uniqlo-like artists every season. Dior is now just seems like a overpriced Uniqlo, maybe it always was (not that I ever bought a single thing from Dior).
My point about the prints is the hype is so great right with Sorayama; even his horrible prints are now sold out when they been siting on the same website for years until Dior. Sorayama is a great artist but I don’t see how he will grow from here. This is a random bump in his career. He hasn’t made anything new nor really gaining any new ground in the fine art world. Seems like this just a tacky urban art attempt by Dior using a old washed up art style.
His work only looks futuristic to those who don’t know it. People who know Sorayama for decades, know this is repeat and now old borings**t. His really old Sony robot dog was the best thing he designed. If you like him you should try and find one of those.
Nanzuka has serious problems as well. It’s definitely not my favorite gallery.

Much better investments than editions for £2000?
If you are buying original art at this price point, it is a total punt.

I’m not talking about art. Just a statement that you don’t need to be flipping editions to make money.

Well that’s fairly obvious. I mean I even get paid to work 😂
Art is and has been the best way to invest your money for years, if you know what you are doing of course.
Personally I buy art as a passion and investment and might buy something I hate if I see long term profit and things I love that will lose money but I want to look at.
Honest and I think many operate the same way.

As for Dior though, it is always considered as a level below the exclusive luxury brands like Hermes, Chanel and Prada. So I don't think they are hurting their reputation, as it was always sub exclusive luxury brand. And with these collaborations they managed to sell prices at the level of the super luxury brands.
Only ones hurt are the people that think (xyz Artist) is going to be in history books because he did a Dior Collaboration. I feel sorry for those people, they will realise in 5-10 years the have been collecting all the wrong artists. By all means buy KAWS prints at retail from PACE if you can. But If xyz is the next Dior Collaboration, I would not advise on spending thousands on a bronze sculpture by him released by case studio...

Sold out of Pejac mate. There is always a right time to sell before you do your cobblers. The management simply don’t cut it.
Oli Epp will prove to be an excellent artist to collect. This forum and its hype machine has absolutely no bearing on what he’ll achieve long term.
