Banksy • Radar Rat Print • 2004, by mammal2 on May 25, 2007 11:43:39 GMT 1, I cant see how the banksy market can crash pezlow. If you consider how limited the editions are their are probably too many potential buyers waiting in the woodwork which would stop such a crash. I think theirs enough of us on this forum to stop that. Any drop in price and I imagine we would all be scrambling to buy!
agreed! i want to pick up a signed laugh now for a tenner? Anyone?

Banksy • Radar Rat Print • 2004, by finsburyparkranger on May 25, 2007 12:23:34 GMT 1, Sometimes when we are in our art bubble i don't think we always see things as clearly as we hope. The thing about Banksy is that he is a f**king super hero. In the uk playground he is talked about with the same enthusiasm as kids used to talk about Pele. What Pele did for football, banksy is doing for art. Miccallef is not only not in the same league, he's not even playing the same game. Banksy is an enigma, a legend, a hero. Micallef is just an artist ... albeit a very, very good one.

Not a bad few estimates on here, though personally I thought it might have gone higher than this.

Agree with this also - and while it is hard to imagine (and I've actually mentally prepared for a big correction) it may well never happen.
Taken from the New Yorker article: Ralph Taylor, a specialist in the Sotheby’s contemporary-art department, said of Banksy, “He is the quickest-growing artist anyone has ever seen of all time.”
While people can speculate of Banksy flying a helicopter over London and dropping unlimited runs of existing screenprints - it will never happen. There is too much money 'invested' in him as an artist. And if you look at other artists who sell at these contemporary auction-house lots, Banksy isn't even close to the most expensive. I mean someone just paid 71mm for a Warhol!
I think it is going to be a fun ride - and in 5-10+ years we are going to be saying 9800 GBP for a Barcode and 11000 GBP for a Radar Rat were the good ol' days (just as everyone moans about not buying more when they originally were on sale at POW)

Banksy • Radar Rat Print • 2004, by andrewd on May 30, 2007 20:49:21 GMT 1, I think the one at Andipa was on sale for £12K. I thought this one may go for more but I wouldn't pay that type of cash for anything on the bay. I seem to remember Lesroy posted recently about buying a high value item and the obvious problems which put people off. ( fortunately his deal went smoothly ) The enthusiasm for Banksy reminds me a bit of the respect that Hirst got when he began but with Banksy the other factor is that so many people own his work due to the relatively large number of prints etc sold when he was getting noticed. I remember an article in one of the supplements when Dave Stewart of the Eurythimcs was showing off the spot painting that he had bought for £5K. Couldn't get a signed print for that these days!

Banksy • Radar Rat Print • 2004, by blackasmarch on Jun 22, 2007 12:56:46 GMT 1, I dont think anyone would shill bid on a £12,000 print. The bids increases are also in big jumps- usually £1,000 which also suggests that they are from real bidders. All okay in my book.

Banksy • Radar Rat Print • 2004, by BME on Jun 22, 2007 13:02:49 GMT 1, Hi,
This is my radar rat. I want to assure everyone that there is absolutely no shill bidding on it. I know that its easy to be sceptical but its also pretty unfair to make these kind of claims on a public forum without any proof whatsoever. The comments unreasonably cast doubt over what is a completely legitimate auction.
If you had reported your concerns to ebay they would simply have conducted an investigation and informed you that there was no shill bidding involved. Because you have posted them publically I now have to go on-line to defend my own reputation.
As for Australia and Lancaster- worlds apart indeed, its just that I happen to have parents who live in each...

Banksy • Radar Rat Print • 2004, by curiousgeorge on Jun 22, 2007 13:50:43 GMT 1, Sorry no offence intended at all, i will freely admit i'm the worlds biggest cynic. When i see new ebay members dropping 10k + bids on things alarm bells ring, though again i'm guessing that's the cynic in me coming out again.
Assuming you are the original owner i'm chuffed for you and hope the sale goes through without any drama

Thanks again CuriousGeorge. Yes, I am very proud of my 100% ebay feeback - I hope that it allays any remaining concerns about the listing. If anyone has any questions they shouldnt hesitate to contact me through ebay.
