Just popped down to Laz to have a look and some very nice pieces. Not a great body of work. Quality not quantity! Shame the video installation wasn't working in the Charring X branch though, so had to run off to catch the penultimate day of Tittifreak (which was very impressive indeed). The street pieces from JR were immense - great street portraits!

What a show!
JR's work is supreme and speaks so loudly it hurts.
The movie is must see. It's been a long time since I have been moved by a documentary.

The video was the star of the show for me,an emotional piece of work which was shot in the favellas where JR had pasted almost the entire hillside.The streetwork is incredible which as Havana commented was even stronger for the muted lighting.

really fantastic show- agree with vavavoom, the video install, along with the lit street works were the stars.

for once a brilliant event NOT based solely around what you can buy

beautiful work but not sure if i want to drop that on a big photo print to be honest. I'm hoping they will release the video on DVD, as they did with the zevs show though..

It's a weird one. I think the print is more of an appreciation of what I would say is the best bit of street art this year rather than an out and out piece of art. It is a big big piece and is one I would love explaining to visitors.

best bit was the street art for me and the documentary too.very moving.think the print encapsulates the impact the street work has on the viewer and the commmunity within.

I'm sure most people have already done this exhibition by now, but as with Parla, JR is somebody else who is clearly completely obsessed with his work. As a hobbyist photographer myself looking at my body of work I seem to subconsciously steer away from portraiture, with the exception of candids. Maybe I'm afraid to make that connection with people, but JR clearly isn't and coupled with the scale of the work it's very exciting.

Thanks for the great pictures Ed. I can understand what you mean about making that connection with people when it comes to portrait photography.
I think JR is absolute master in that.

This is a community forum not a library. When were you made chief librarian / forum photographer in residence?

I am on here most days, and I hadn't A) been to the show or B) seen all of the pics and I couldn't see any threads about it on the first few pages of the forum, so it's fair to assume some other people won't have seen one of the other threads?!

Given it's had over 60 views overnight, clearly that is the case.

Silky - perhaps it might be a nice idea to create a new section purely for photographs from shows? create a new thread for each individual show, and people can link their gallerys into those threads. Pics only, general discussion kept for the main forum. Might make a nice accessible resource over time, rather than having to search through multiple pages of individual threads to find pics.
