Hutch 🇬🇧 Brighton Street Artist • Stencil Art • For Sale, by davedandconfused on Aug 7, 2014 11:16:38 GMT 1, This is a forum for graffiti and street art isn't it ? It's just that whatever you think of this image Hutch has, does and will undoubtedly continue to get his stuff up on walls outside, invited or not. Sad so many want to slag a working graffer. I would love to see examples of said graff pieces. Can you post some photos? I don't really, few from way back somewhere or other but there's a better link above than I could provide.
I do remember living in Brighton in the mid '90's and seeing Hutch up everywhere and if anything by then more hutch than banksy round there, not his biggest art fan but big respect for his work ethic.

Hutch 🇬🇧 Brighton Street Artist • Stencil Art • For Sale, by met on Jul 8, 2019 15:39:21 GMT 1,
Besides the financial cost, it's worth considering the possible social cost of hanging an image like this on your wall at home or at work.
The former price is probably quite reasonable. But for me, the latter would be prohibitive.
Whether vis-à-vis family members, friends, acquaintances or colleagues, I just wouldn't want to be seen as "that guy".
This is more about sensibility and cultural reference points than prudishness — since I'd have no real issue about displaying a print like Banksy's Queen Vic, photographs by the likes of Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin, or even a film poster for Boogie Nights.

I try and steer clear of the keyboard warrior comments which often characterise these for sale threads.....but.
A bit harsh for what is/was a popular print with a number of reasonably sized editions sold. There's a lot of "those guys" out there.
I have one of these on the wall, not hidden, and I don't believe anyone that I care about thinks of me as "that guy".......whatever that actually means.
Incidentally, did you think the Boogie Nights reference was clever when you wrote it, wondering if anyone would get the Rollergirl connection.

Hutch 🇬🇧 Brighton Street Artist • Stencil Art • For Sale, by met on Jul 11, 2019 19:25:11 GMT 1, [...] Besides the financial cost, it's worth considering the possible social cost of hanging an image like this on your wall at home or at work. The former price is probably quite reasonable. But for me, the latter would be prohibitive. Whether vis-à-vis family members, friends, acquaintances or colleagues, I just wouldn't want to be seen as "that guy". Your reply raises a number of interesting and discrete points, which I'll address individually:
1. My definition of "keyboard warrior comments" would be those made behind a screen which the author would not dare make in person. Such comments are regrettable yet pervasive. Anonymity (or just partial anonymity) can bring out the worst in people if they sense they won't be held accountable for what they write. The internet creates a space where the petty and cowards can truly thrive.
In case it's being suggested that my earlier comments were keyboard warrior-ish, this would be inaccurate.
All of my posts are drafted on the assumption they'll be read by loved ones, peers and potential employers. Similarly, there is nothing I put down in writing that would make me uncomfortable if mentioned to the addressee(s) face-to-face.
What I wrote above is therefore the same as what I'd say to you, leighdrive or dizzle22 if we were having a chat over a pint after work. I might express myself with earnestness or by taking the piss — and I'd expect the same candour or ribbing in return from anyone whose opinions were at variance with my own.
2. Although the point was recently made in a separate thread, the fact a post may be harsh is irrelevant. An issue only exists if that post is too harsh, i.e. unfair and/or poorly thought-through. But I don't believe my remarks about the Hutch image, Rollergirl, fall outside the scope of fair commentary.
3. Whether an artwork or artist is popular is also distinct from whether they're actually any good.
For emphasis, Mr. Brainwash, Martin Whatson and JJ Adams are popular artists. Each of them has sold a frightening amount of their respective products. One lesson here is that mediocrity and cluelessness sometimes do triumph, at least in the short to medium term.
4. It is certainly for the better if the art on your wall doesn't cause those you care about to think less of you.
5. By "that guy", I was referring to anybody displaying signs of arrested development. What may be clever or amusing to an adolescent often seems less so by the time they reach their mid-20s. And teenage wet-dream material isn't what I'd wish to be associated with.
For me, an example of "that guy" would be someone with a hentai illustration as their forum avatar. Likewise with anybody using a gif of Kate Upton dancing in her bikini. Or the chap who wears a t-shirt emblazoned with the text, Sex Instructor – First Lesson Free. That sort of thing.
Whilst your view will no doubt differ, I place Rollergirl in the same category. And this is part of the beauty of art — we can share the same experience together, while remaining firmly in disagreement. The viewpoints of other people, especially random online strangers, don't need to matter.
6. The express reference to Boogie Nights was for the benefit of those who may be unfamiliar with the film and/or the earlier roles of Heather Graham. [Hat tip to fans of Drugstore Cowboy. Knowing nod if, on occasion, you still listen to Kings of the Wild Frontier.] I suspect that will apply to a few younger members in particular, given the movie was released 22 years ago.
7. Although I still consider the image embarrassing, if anyone remains interested in Rollergirl, check out Hutch's website. Two artist proofs (in addition to a regular edition of 10) on cradled birch panel (50 x 50 x 1.8 cm) are available for £300.00 apiece:
