Hutch ๐ฌ๐ง Brighton Street Artist โข Stencil Art โข For Sale, by manchestermike on Oct 23, 2007 15:55:52 GMT 1, There is a averagely drawn woman hoovering up some badly drawn skulls... nothing to do with the Banksy or D*Face to my mind... What's next? A helicopter with bows on with Chรฉ piloting? OK, so she is hoovering up skulls, clearing away the skulls, clearing away the dead, tidying up, hiding them, sweeping it away. Need I say more?
Yes... why is she doing it? What is her reason for doing it? Why would a maid hoover up skulls? Surely undertakers tidy away the dead?
I seriously don't get what he is trying to say with this image... maybe he has gone, oooh, Banksy maid... oooh, skulls, they're street art... and put them together in an image, but why? It makes no sense...

You've not seen all the posts on these forums about people saying how sick they are of skulls in art then ?
Kinda like the Dolk Mona Lisa that's painting herself out IMO. I think the 1950's McCarthy era Hoover lady cleaning away the skulls of the dead is a quite potent image. It's clever. Besides, i'm kinda tired of all this painterly figurative expressionistic bollocks.

the skulls look like they're coming out of the hoover rather than going in...or is that the real meaning???

Dan, if he produced something remotely interesting OR innovative OR clever OR well made OR just pretty good I will be the first person to say well done, that's great.
I'm expressing an opinion, my opinion, on the piece and I think it's toss. Everyone else is entitled to their opinion on it.
The whole point of a discussion forum is to discuss, you will notice I didn't immediately come out and say what I thought of the print, I asked about the meaning behind it, what people thought the meaning is - to open a discussion.
There is a lot of works on here by various artists that range from absolutely amazing to utter pish and surely it is our duty to say what we think? I don't get Swoon but I can appreciate why people like her work. I don't particularly like Faile's work (apart from a couple of things) and I'll say that. Static and Jef Aerosol in the main leave me cold, Dolk does nothing for me, I see him as just an average imitation of Banksy - but why have cotton when you can have silk? I think Hutch is bobbins (although I admit Roller Girl isn't bad), he just screams of the Banksy bandwagon jumper (a la Tevez on eBay amongst others).
Everybody is new at some point to this game, and they all start somewhere, so a bit of advice to people doesn't go amiss rather than bigging all sorts of average at very best crap up

Not even a contest mate, bombhugger by a mile, It's as fresh now as it was then, it's innovative, quirky, a fantastic image that is relevant now and will be for many years to come...
To be honest you can't compare the two images... only to say the style of the Hutch is an obvious homage to Banksy

The style as in the stencilled screen print style... Hutch is obviously heavily influenced by Banksy's style. I wasn't saying that the image is a homage in any way...
Hutch for me is just one of a number of people trying to make a name off Banksy's back but doing it in a poor an unoriginal way in the same way this guy is doing so
Now while I'm not a massive fan of Dolk who is working in a similar way, he is at least innovative. Nick Walker I like, he's innovative too... this Hutch isn't, it's boring, it's staid, it says absolutely nothing to me apart from "maybe I can cash in on some mugs who like Banksy but can't afford his work" or "maybe people will buy loads of this in case I'm the 'next Banksy' "
News for the people Hutch is trying to reach - a) there is plenty of great work out there at similar prices that is 100s of times better; b) hutch has about the same chance of being the next Banksy as I have of being the next Prime Minister.
Anyway... you didn't answer the question... how do you compare the hoovering skulls print to bombhugger?

;D The bombhugger image is badly done Many people have said the same thing on here before The arms are all wrong, The bomb is very basic, it just dunt look like much time has been spent on it. Just my opinion I would not normally say it coz I dont like to offend other forum members that might really like it ;D
The Hutch piece has more detail, but not too much as to make it fussy. The colours and layout are spot on ;D It has a good strong message (even if its not so clear to some) and I like it ;D Simple! Im allowed to say that ;D so I will, and its not going to upset anyone by saying it.

Think I've sussed it. The common name for a vacuum cleaner is a hoover.
J Edgar Hoover was director of the FBI FBI was a hit for The Shadows Often appearing with The Shadows was Cliff Richards Cliff Richards appeared in the film Summer Holiday Summer Holidays are often taken in Brighton Brighton is home to the artist Hutch!
Easy really. Don't know why Mike didn't get it

Hutch ๐ฌ๐ง Brighton Street Artist โข Stencil Art โข For Sale, by a4mnt on Oct 24, 2007 15:57:19 GMT 1, Surely when comparing Bombhugger to this new Hutch piece, you would take into account the dates the pieces were created.
Bombhugger may be basic, but when it was first created, what else was there to compare it with? I'm not sure, so thats actually a question.
I think i'm right in thinking that Bombhugger was inovative for its time, whereas copycat artists that come along now really have to think outside the box a lot more to make people want to buy their art.
There just are too many guns and bombs and death symbols in counter culture art, for this reason, I'm loving David Choe even more.

Ok, I'm not in the best of moods today so apologies in advance. I like choe's art and as you know have a couple of prints but....
How is Choe counter culture cracka? Doesn't he proclaim to have found jesus and says things like 'thumbs up America' and draws mostly pictures of pretty women. Can't see him being any more than a cog in the wheel at the moment. Being a street artist on its own won't help change the world. I bet every billboard advertising creative team consider themselves street artists these days.
