Faile Vanity on BRP, by uksnowman on Nov 25, 2008 17:19:56 GMT 1, From what edition size? It's not in the originals section so I assume it is a unique limited edition print.
Bit pricey in the run up to xmas..

Faile Vanity on BRP, by BONZO on Nov 25, 2008 18:21:59 GMT 1, Have BRP found a load of Faile's down the back of their sofa or something?? I want a sofa like that...
Check out EdCase's similar (much nicer!) Faile in the 'Get your art out' thread above - page 4 or 5, looks the mutts nuts framed!

Do you disagree or just want to be passive aggressive?

Not many pieces have shifted and they priced their pieces way too high and they even had to send out a huge price adjustment. Price adjustments are bad news for a show and an artist. There is also a glut of work, forever flooding the market. The prayer wheels are also way too weird and affect the Faile perception. They are a factory now and have been squeezing the buyer for a year or so now.

I thought most of that show sold? I'm sure some pieces were negotiated down a bit but I've I've not heard of an official price adjustment. Can you tell more? Was there an email or new price list printed? I agree with the squeezing buyers bit though, and I think it's been going on for well over a year. Same images used since 2005 or longer!

It was only the boxes (all sold out pre-show I believe) that were "the same images used since 2005 or longer", all the canvases, prayer wheels and pallets are from the new body of work are they not??

Faile Vanity on BRP, by Francis on Nov 27, 2008 21:10:58 GMT 1, BRP is unloading their stash of Failes because they sense the Faile price crash. The London show was a huge dud. Silly, silly boy. Not many pieces sold? What, as in every single one of the boxes, 75% of canvases, over half of the prayer wheels, and several of the pallets? And let's not forget the fliers and price lists, eh? As for sending out a "huge price adjustment", Faile sent over the prices in what we initially thought were Pounds, only to find they were Dollars, hence the price correction. .
Make whatever excuse you want for the adjustment. Had you had more sales, you would have never made the adjustment at all. Faile has really hurt their long term prospects over the past couple of sales and shows and it is nearly irrevocable. Sacrificing long term success for short term gains is never a good thing in the art world.

Faile Vanity on BRP, by Deleted on Nov 27, 2008 21:44:13 GMT 1, I didn't attend the show, but I can tell you that Faile worked long and hard on these pieces. I personally think that it's their best work yet. As for the prices, I think that they are justified as there is significant demand for them. Keep in mind that we make up a small number of collectors in the Fine Art world. There are plenty of people that are willing to pay these prices.
Last thing I'll say is that Faile didn't make a penny for years. I admire people who start from nothing and achieve success. Why can't people just say "congrats" and leave it to that?

Faile Vanity on BRP, by steviededalus on Nov 27, 2008 21:52:24 GMT 1, I loved the Faile show! Definitely not a dud! 80% sold out, the scale of big canvases might have deterred some, simply for a lack of space, but overall I think Faile can be very happy with results. Personally, I'm a big fan of the prayer wheels. Really like the direction they're taking their stuff in, especially new Native American imagery, appropriating the stares and stripes etc. Think there are some unnecessarily sceptical comments above, but hey, each to their own. Moreover, yes - we ar seeing pieces popping up that might not have in the summer but the world ha changed. Art as a market has dropped 20% odd, but it's holding up pretty well now. Faile, for that matter, are also holding up quite well and are selling to collectors outside the urban bubble. Will be interesting to see how things pan out. I, for one, am a big Faile fan, and will bet that they are here to stay.

Faile Vanity on BRP, by slowmo on Nov 27, 2008 22:29:49 GMT 1, So was the price correction pre-show? Correct on the price list published? Confused now, but the prayer wheels were mighty sweet an to know that £7K may well have been wiped off them, could make a difference in terms of going nuts and getting one.
