Hopefully it'll be left in the shop and you won't have to make that damn awful decision. So what we going to dig up next? a Jose Pala Bling Ring with large yellow Knucker!

I do love that faile parla combo though, just fling back that faile shower curtain and step onto the parla rug. Now thats what I call rock 'n roll!

Murakami, the king of high art / low art (see thanks given to Murakami in the back of Parla's books), and Parla did a New Year's countdown together in 2006, and then Parla suddenly does all this merchandising!!! In interviews, it was stated Parla and Murakami first met during Murakami's exhibit in Rockefeller Center, NYC in 2003. They quickly became friends, probably aided by that fact that Jose had long known people who worked at Murakami's NYC studio and frequently visited Japan himself.
They had met previously and reconnected in LA when JosΓ© was setting up his show at BLK/MRKT in 2005. Murakami was around the corner (from the gallery) at the Chiho Aoshima show at Blum & Poe and he came over to check out Parla's breath-taking nearly 50-ft onsite painting "Autonomous Paths". Murakami went crazy for it and bought up some Parla and Kinsey paintings on the spot... quite the fun day I must say myself!

There are some pieces with straight-up words written on them. Most of the 'writing', however, is similar to whispers in that you think you can make something out but you're not sure. Parla knows what is being written, but most of the pieces are so layered that it becomes undecipherable.
Many of the watercolors are much easier to read than the layered pieces on wood/canvas.

On February of 2006 Bronx River Pkwy. took a trip to Puerto Rico with the plans of making a full-length record in collaboration with Pablo Rodriguez of Candela Records. This 45 is just a taste of the magic that came out of this two week long, monumental meeting of titans in old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Side one, entitled "La Valla' (The Fence), is especially appropriate with the current state of affairs regarding immigrant's rights. An Uptempo number with a marching band flair featuring the voice of Jose Parla (A.K.A. 'Ease'). Side B, enitled 'Nora Se Va" is a midtempo ballad with a soundtrack feel featuring legendary singer Tito Cruz, a key member of Roberto Roena and Apollo Sound for close to thirty years--includes a special guest appearance by Japanese pop star Mari Mari.
