New LAZinc Gallery?, by paul1066 on Feb 23, 2006 0:36:39 GMT 1, I think I walked passed the gallery today!! Its on Greek Street, Soho, nearish Soho Square. No signage outside, but I peered in (door is covered) and there is definitely a whole load of art (nothing that I recognized). No indication of when it might open.

New LAZinc Gallery?, by gm on Feb 27, 2006 15:10:02 GMT 1, I took a stroll down Greek Street at lunchtime. If you're walking down from Soho Square, the soon-to-be gallery is on the left, a bit further down from the Pillars of Hercules.
They've got one piece which I think I recognise from Santa's Ghetto in the front window, but there are cloths hung all round behind it so you can't actually see what's going on nside.
There's no indication outside of when it will be opening.

New LAZinc Gallery?, by Daniel Silk on Mar 8, 2006 19:19:01 GMT 1, I wonder if by being "Appointment only" its going to be just for people with ยฃ10,000+ to spend?
Its a shame if thats how its gonna be
I think a good sized POW/Lazinc Gallery would be very popular ;D
What do you all think?

New LAZinc Gallery?, by Honest Jon on Mar 10, 2006 14:42:11 GMT 1, 3d's work is on there. I cant believe the prices of the work, its really good for us with older prints, but I can honestly see POW putting there prices up on the next lot of prints by banksy. well espesially the signed ones. Think i might just take out a massive loan and buy tons of prints, think about it youd make a killing in a year or so. think about it the happy chopper print (unsigned) was ยฃ50-ยฃ60 origianlally now Laz is selling them at ยฃ1200 + vat. Wow wish i had one of those. Think i might hold onto my prints for a while.

cool, he's up there now, but wasn't before today.
hmm, the prices seem to have gone up in general!
I have no older prints, and little chance of getting any at these silly prices. c'est la vie.
markets can go down as well as up you know. I have bought and sold records on and off for years and all 'artists' have peaks and troughs. The secret is being able to recognise the peaks and troughs!

New LAZinc Gallery?, by frankie on Mar 16, 2006 19:20:45 GMT 1, i was by the gallery today and while nice to look at, i was pretty surprised by the price tag on most items (ie, for very very rich people). btw the banksy melted phone booth is ยฃ50,000. subversive I guess, but i dont really get why anyone, rich or other would spend that much on a phone booth sawed in half with some red paint dripped around it. lets just say it was a far cry from the israel painting with the graffiti wall in the middle.

New LAZinc Gallery?, by Daniel Silk on Mar 16, 2006 21:14:43 GMT 1, I think it would have been good if they had a bigger gallery selling everything POW has on its website.
I know that you can call into POW, but it would be even better if you could see all the pictures framed up and on the walls of a nice gallery ;D
What do you think?

New LAZinc Gallery?, by gm on Mar 22, 2006 16:01:19 GMT 1, Noticed that the Lazinc gallery's open now, but I was in a hurry and didn't have time to stop and gawk. There's a stuffed squirrel in the window and a big Donwood on one wall.
I haven't been able to get into the Lazinc website for about 2 weeks now. Front page loads ok but when I hit the Enter button I get a 404
Edit: And as for the prices - feckin ridiculous! Last time I looked on the Lazinc site there was a Laugh Now sprayed on to a wooden pallet and priced up at something like 6 grand + vat. Yes, I know it's an original Banksy but the pallet probably came out of a skip, and how long does it take to apply a stencil and squirt a bit of paint on? Not worth it at all. If he'd chopped down his own tree, hand carved the planks and lovingly assembled the pallet himself too... it'd still be overpriced.
He's pricing himself (Lazarides is pricing him) way out of the market that made him popular in the first place.

yeah, sometimes Laz's website seems to work for me, sometimes not..... strange
I'm afraid it's called market forces. if people are prepared to pay x then they will be charged that.
The price of art, unlike most other artforms, does NOT depend on how difficult / time consuming it is, but how 'famous' the person is.
At least the prints are pretty affordable, even if they have risen in cost and signed ones sell out mucho pronto. For ยฃ75 we can all (if we are on the ball) get an unsigned print.....

New LAZinc Gallery?, by gm on Mar 23, 2006 8:33:39 GMT 1,
I understand that, but can't agree with it, and even if my lottery numbers come up on Saturday there's no way I'd pay it. I don't care how famous the name is, I still like to think I'm getting value for money `
Walked past again last night and saw the phone box. Hmm. If it had been planted on the corner of Oxford Street or something it would have been fantastic. Planted in the middle of a gallery space it doesn't have the same effect.
