WCP The West Country Prince, by klyde on Sept 22, 2012 7:45:54 GMT 1,
Its not like these are an alternative to buying Banksy.
All his prints are sold out. He made his money. He would make much more if he could be bothered. He is a major cash cow he doesnt milk.
The people that buy WCP will NEVER buy these prints for their absurd secondary market price.
It wont affect the folder hoarders and their 8 year old mint smoke and pet free home never framed bits of paper that hide under theirs beds years after year.
Its just wall decoration, LOL!

I think this sums it up : Buy a fake if you want, just don't boast about it on this Forum cos some of us (hopefully most of us) don't care about people hanging every fake print available on their walls (not much space left on their walls for real artists then !) and have a (moral) issue with WCP making money on the back of an artist we all like...

WCP The West Country Prince, by misterx on Sept 22, 2012 8:33:37 GMT 1, What a storm in a teacup! My dogs called Banksy...have I lost my moral compass? Do you feel so strongly about fake Rolex's or Nike running socks?? Buy what you like...if that includes WCP's, so what? Not for you nex? Thats fine....move on, dont sweat the small stuff! I've been on this site on and off for 5 years I've followed the graf world for over twenty, when I see what it's become and the parasites living off it I get pissed... But I get pissed by people's inability to have an intelligent discussion and deal with confrontation in an intelligent manner - it's a microcosm of the world so forgive me for giving a s**t
mate, I respect your passion, but disagree with you.Thats it. We are all different.I couldnt give two shitz what you have hanging on your walls or whether its gen or not..you see it differently. Apologies if thats not seen as intelligent debate, but thats all I got at the mo.
And what about those fake Nike running socks? Are you as aggrieved about those?

Interested to know just how many people that are getting all hot under the collar about these actually already have the good fortune to own a real Banksy already? Whole I'm stood in the post office queue waiting for Kate.

WCP The West Country Prince, by jeffro on Sept 22, 2012 9:09:24 GMT 1, My problem is that WCP is making money with it. Banksy and POW worked hard for many years to get where they are. Without people buying his stuff from him he would be working a 9-5 job for the last 10 years. A long time ago Banksy sold his very early stuff cheaper than WCP now. (15 for a barcode ...) The problem is making money with other peoples work/ideas. Let's say you copy an album from a friend that is ok but if that friend makes hundreds of copies and sells them that I find wrong. If you can't afford a 4000pound print so what there are hundreds of other cheaper artists. Put some time and effort into it and find something you like - unless you want to pretend to you have a real a Banksy. Of all the places on the internet this should not be the place to celebrate fakes. So your saying if you can't afford a banksy you cant have one on your wall. that's Bulls**t. So if you was lucky to buy one of his prints back in the day for 20 - 50 quid you think your better then people of today as they can't afford the asking price of 4000 and they should buy s**t prints by other artists that they might not like. That just wrong I'm lucky enoff to be able to afford these carzy prices but I won't pay them as I've got better things to spend my money on. My walls are rammed with other artists and I've spent over 25k on art over the years. If banksy was so botherd about it he would up his print sizes so others could buy them that want them and not just for the wankers that ass lick him and on the winner loto list all the time. Banksy prints are not just for rich people but for anyone that loves his work

WCP The West Country Prince, by dirtypete on Sept 22, 2012 11:49:11 GMT 1, I think this thread is fascinating , although a few people’s views are running a bit hot.
I'll hold my hand high above my head and admit that I have brought an 'I fought the law' and 'Kate Moss' from WCP. My reasons for this were fairly simple, I love the images and the allure of owning some affordable screen print versions was too much of a temptation.
I was lucky enough to stumble upon Banksy when prints hung around for months, cost £20 and I could never understand why someone would pay an extra £100 for a pencil signature. While the ever rising price of street art prints was a trill to begin with it then tainted the scene (although the £50 thread does help me keep the faith).
I quickly got board of missing out on prints that I loved, only to see them being flipped. Personally I can't understand why Banksy doesn't produce some unlimited runs for a limited period, like Josh Keyes does on Tiny Showcase. That way everyone who likes the image can buy it at a reasonable price and Banksy/a charity can make some money. Another alternative would be to release the whole of his back catalogue as high quality giclee, but I’m sure some true ‘art lovers’ would complain that it cheapens their investments.
My Kate Moss will not be kept in a bank vault or a portfolio, but will be hung up in a sunny corner of my kitchen, slowly fading as the sunlight basks her in glory. I will know that it is a cheap reproduction, but it will not affect my enjoyment of the image in the slightest.
I’ll sleep safe in the knowledge that Banksy won’t take offence or legal action.

be a uprising here if he did that
yes banksy could not give 2 shits about wcp or other fakes only people with unsigned ones and signed do for obvious reasons yet the artist really does not care.

WCP The West Country Prince, by Dr Plip on Sept 22, 2012 17:10:42 GMT 1, This should be the final word. You're welcome to download whatever you wish from this site for personal use. However, making your own art or merchandise and passing it off as ‘official’ or authentic Banksy artwork is bad and very wrong. ~ Banksy
So........Banksy says, while WCP isn't passing the prints off as authentic Banksy items, they are using his images for something other than personal use. So Banksy says NO?

I wonder if the reason the Kate wasn't spot on is because of the difficulty in gaining access to a genuine print?

Could the Kate have been taken from a postcard? And if it's more than one collector involved, it wouldn't be too hard to gather the originals.
Saying that, could you imagine going to your local small business advisor with this business plan. "Hello, I'd like to borrow £100,000 so I can purchase some original Banksy prints, which I will then scan, reproduce, and then sell on eBay"

WCP The West Country Prince, by summoner on Mar 3, 2013 18:15:14 GMT 1, Thought I would interject in the whole real/fake discussion. I do own a real Banksy, Jack & Jill, and after getting this framed and on the wall my girlfriends 10yr old daughter wanted to see more work done by Banksy. She is a huge fan of my Shep collection and lights up every time a new one hits the door. She and I got to looking at some of Banksy's prints and she flipped over Girl with Red Balloon. I remembered seeing that WCP had some, so I figured what the hell and picked one up. I kept it a secret from her until just yesterday when I picked up an Ikea frame, had the glass swapped out for UV Plexi and put this up in her room.
In it's simplest form art comes down to the image and the connection with that image to the person looking at it. Does she care that it's not a 10K+ authenticated Banksy? Not in the slightest, but by the reaction she has you would have thought that it was. That is all that really matters, at least to me.
