OLI EPP - WET WEATHER WARNING, by eskay on Sept 9, 2024 3:33:10 GMT 1, I think itโs pretty fair. Similar price and edition size to his last release from Perrotin. This oneโs a bit bigger in size though.
Saw a video on the galleryโs IG and the quality looks amazing.
I grabbed one as itโs a strong image.

OLI EPP - WET WEATHER WARNING, by Poster Bob on Sept 9, 2024 14:25:34 GMT 1, โRedโ was 765โฌ shipped to the UK in 2022. It sold out in an hour or two. Conversely, this is a larger print, in a larger edition, of a weaker image, in a MUCH worse market. His last three prints to have been auctioned at Phillips only achieved hammers of ยฃ1,000, so ยฃ900 to the seller. Things have gotten much worse in the year since theyโve been auctioned. You should only buy this based on loving the image and understanding that it may not sell out at source for a decade, meaning you canโt get your money back if you tire of it.

in 2035 do you think 99% of the art we are discussing now (that will by then be 25-40 years old) will stand the test of time and bounce back
whats gone will stay gone
Invaders from 2000 bouncing back to 2020 prices in 2035? not a chance

It's pretty shit, far less money and liquidity in the market. Values down 30-70% since 2022 for a lot of blue chips, many emerging/mid career artists are unsaleable or down 80-95%. I am seeing some green shoots last couple of months, and for me things are picking up albeit from a very low point. That being said don't expect the mania of 2020-21 for a while yet and it's fragile so could easily find new depths to sink. A US recession is entirely possible and that would stamp out any recovery pretty quickly.

OLI EPP - WET WEATHER WARNING, by Poster Bob on Sept 9, 2024 22:59:24 GMT 1, Same old, we're not all as rich as you. So editions is all most people can afford...if that Rich? You can afford an original if you can afford these overpriced editions. My main gripe in this market is the continued, wild asking prices for wet-behind-the-ear artists. It seems as if all galleries still insist on increasing the size of works and stamping a $25k price tag on pieces, when itโs their second show with decent representation. Then three months later theyโre still messaging you asking if youโre interested after you havenโt replied to their most recent follow-ups. There is not a single original work that I could own by any up-and-comer on my radar at the price point of this print. Would you show us say two originals you would buy instead of this?

OLI EPP - WET WEATHER WARNING, by nobokov on Sept 9, 2024 23:20:18 GMT 1, Rich? You can afford an original if you can afford these overpriced editions. There is not a single original work that I could own by any up-and-comer on my radar at the price point of this print. Would you show us say two originals you would buy instead of this? No, I would rather not post any links to where there is affordable originals as I would still like to buy an affordable original without much competition.
In general art (originals and editions) from most galleries are overpriced, so you'll have to identify the artists before they become up-and-coming. At this point, it doesn't really matter, because it seems like it'll all be worthless. Perhaps it might be better to focus on the pre-21st century art than emerging art.
If someone is into emerging art, they're better off buying an original at Phillips since the secondary prices for originals are in line with AA edition pricing.

I do think itโs his best looking image yet, if you are happy to have a moley Maccas worker or a kebab on the wall, surely youโd have this. A little pricey for an artist that was built mostly hype and a little artist promise. I am sure he will work hard and be successful but I doubt he will be successful enough to sell out editions at this sort of price in hours again for a very long time, if ever.

Great that art is subjective. I really like the new direction. It seems more mature & polished. You could say very fitting of the audiences you mention.
Still happy I pulled the trigger
