Banksy Tree Mural • North London, by Happy Shopper on Mar 23, 2024 21:03:10 GMT 1, Saw them doing that when I drove past around lunchtime. Completely ruining it, IMO. Just looks like a mess. Cover the stencilled figure, perhaps, but the green “tree” can easily be repainted.

Banksy Tree Mural • North London, by Bbb on Mar 24, 2024 10:43:54 GMT 1, Is it me…or is everyone missing the meaning of this work. Quite a few saying it is average but I think there is a lot more to this piece and it is political. I have read a few newspaper articles with experts proclaiming it is about looking after nature and ecology. Right, so you went to art school/ studied history of art to spout that generic rubbish.
My thoughts: 1.) banksy has done numerous art works and exhibitions on the West Bank and in Bethlehem. Wall and peace, walled off Astoria. We know his position on the region.
2.) where is the art? Finsbury Park. Large Muslim community and known for Finsbury Park mosque.
3.) to me the tree looks like a menorah.
4.) Green is the colour of Palestine
Personally, I think this piece is about juxtaposing one on the other and co-existence and showing support for Palestine. My argument above doesn’t really explain what the character in the piece is doing but I am pretty sure there is more meaning to this than just painting the leaves back on a pollarded tree.

Just to add something visual to your point 3., this is a photo of the Jewish monument at Mauthausen concentration camp. Ad 4.: the colour green has a much wider significance in Islam than "just" standing for Palestine (which doesn't contradict your point)
I am however quite surprised and stunned by your wholesale condemnation of and aggression towards art historians. In this case also because you cannot deny that there is (also) an environmentalist interpretation and significance to the piece.

Banksy Tree Mural • North London, by sevrin on Mar 24, 2024 11:36:32 GMT 1, I think the paint is slowly eroding, damp has gotten behind it, and perspex is not going to save it, you can see it all bubbling up and falling off. In fact, covering the whole thing in perspex may actually speed up the process of erosion, as the wall will never dry out completely.

Interesting interpretation, I suppose like beauty art is in the eye of the beholder. I'm more inclined to link it to the fact that a few hours after it was painted one of the last legal lines of defence for climate protesters that may have damaged property, namely the beliefs of a defendant, were removed from UK Law despite said beliefs being based on fact and reality. link

Banksy Tree Mural • North London, by lukas01 on Mar 25, 2024 10:14:52 GMT 1, I believe that the choice of this wall, with a facade film of a few millimeters and with significant rising damp, is not a random choice.
This wall, or rather what is on it, will not last long.

Could the green color be Palestinian? I don't know, but I'm sure that even though I'm Italian, I feel that flag is mine too.

A shame, which belongs to all men and all nations, who allow this to happen.
This is an art forum and it's right not to talk about it. But I think it is necessary to report a minimum, given the thousands of people killed in this place where the persecuted are not Jews. I like to think that Banksy also used that green for solidarity.

Yeah. The wall is private. Any devilry is the work of private individuals. Private individuals most of the time do not understand anything about art and do not even make an effort to understand its taste.

Banksy Tree Mural • North London, by PC Baby on Mar 26, 2024 20:04:41 GMT 1, ..nor do many understand how artists are wired differently. Artists need freedom & space to create - and the best of them make you think and challenge your perceptions. Invariably, they are not sales people (thinking about art as a means to get rich & famous), which is counter-productive to their ethos.

Banksy Tree Mural • North London, by loui on Mar 26, 2024 23:03:29 GMT 1, Looks like quite the job covering this whole thing in perspex They should stick a massively ornate gold frame around the whole thing while they're at it. Edit: Just noticed they're using a lot of wood to protect a piece about a tree being cut back.... "It's like raaaaaaaain..." Reconsidering this whole thing, I do think it isn’t about the environment at all. Message not clear enough and how much of that ghastly paint is actually leaking away into the soil.
It’s just some statement by, well claimed by banksy, and perspexed by some weirdos who think it needs protection. Such a shame really.
