Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by lukas01 on Jul 24, 2023 8:56:40 GMT 1, Among other things they are posters made by Damien Hirst and signed by him. All this in an exhibition... where many dispute the fact that the works for sale... he didn't make and only signed them. In a few years, art critics will say that the originals were the posters! 😎 Anyway... strangely I like them. I learned that there is also an exhibition catalog and a stock exchange. Do you know how much they cost... and if the bag is signed too? 🙂 There’s no dispute. DH is very open that the photo-realistic bits are painted by assistants… That Damien Hirst does this is well known. But I've read around that... these posters are much more popular... because they are an edition of 500 created by and signed by Hirst. A person can sometimes be more attracted to a poster than to a canvas.
I should add that the canvases will probably have a staggering retail price… and the size of the posters themselves will be out of financial reach for many people.
These posters will be in great demand in the future. Even the silk-screened bags will be... and I imagine it will be very easy to spread them on a wooden frame.
A good poster to hang on the wall… and an equally good bag to consider.

In this case the edition and the signature make the difference compared to previous editions.
Sure... a poster is sometimes less valuable than a paper screen print... which in turn is cheaper than a canvas screen print. Sure... even a screen print on canvas... turns out to be cheaper than an original on canvas of the same size. They are all works of art.

At the rate DH churns these out, no one should expect these to fund their retirement etc

A ''nice poster'' on the wall is not an original canvas... and this seems obvious to me. I'm sure... you didn't read my comment correctly before. 😉
These posters are in 3 different versions. Are they worth more than the previous ones?... If someone wants to put them on the wall, it's a good starting point.
Did you buy them?... If so put them on the wall... and keep this in mind for the future*. 😎

... pretty much everything you said there is incorrect. Posters are not "works on paper" by the artist - at least not in the sense of "artworks on paper". They are most often (as in this case I assume) reproductions with added text. And they are also not equally prized by collectors. Sure, some are more artistic and some are more in demand (e.g. when they are signed like these), but they are a different thing from works of paper, prints, canvases etc.
Don't get me wrong, I love posters, and some artists make unique designs for posters and have them printed with respected printing methods (that is not offset). But these DH posters are posters, not prints. Albeit, they are nice to look at.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Love Is In The Air on Jul 24, 2023 12:06:09 GMT 1, I like the look of these posters(agree they are only posters not artworks) and I think framed up in black, a triptych or a pair would look pretty good.
Appreciate others are in front of me in the queue but not a huge fan of eBay so if any forum members are flipping/selling these please PM me your price. Have lots of stuff I could swap too, Banksy Cut And Run items, signed Harland Miller book etc if that appeals more. Thanks

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Horatio Nelson on Jul 24, 2023 12:40:52 GMT 1, This is the Hirst magic. 3 pages of chatter on UUA in as many days talking more about these posters than the exhibition itself. People want his works in whatever format they can afford/access them. Nobody is saying a signed poster is a medium with any great intrinsic value in its own right, but when you have a good sized work with an attractive image that is signed on the front, collectors will always want it at the right price. Emin neons come to mind - they were sold at £50 each and were unashamedly posters, rather prints, but peoples still covet them.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by atomone on Jul 24, 2023 12:49:19 GMT 1, The missus has the pink and black one and after a call from our daughter at 5am this morning needing funds for health insurance is now looking to sell on to help towards that cost. She is obviously after the best price but doesn't want to stick in on eBay (yet) She doesn't want to swap for anything so all offers considered.
As a result I am having to sell my Nick Walker Vandal Airways but will stick that on another thread :-)

The Emin posters did not have garish writing on them with the exhibition details. They are also from a popular series, which had never before been released as prints (AFAIK), so I feel that’s an unfair comparison. Hirst’s signed Claridge’s posters aren’t doing much better than at the time of release.

Surprising to hear that they are the most sought after. When I was there yesterday lunchtime, I only saw 2 people buying and one of them was me. With the Claridges poster, people were queuing up outside to get them.
If they were that popular they would surely have all gone by now.

It doesn't make sense to me. 🙂
A friend of mine was in Glasgow with his wife. The wife bought all of Banksy's work for sale. Instead my friend only bought the 2 shirts... and with the sole purpose of doing some healthy charity.
You don't have to buy all the time and in any situation. It is not needed. You can let others have the opportunity to have something to take special care of.

It doesn't make sense to me. 🙂 A friend of mine was in Glasgow with his wife. The wife bought all of Banksy's work for sale. Instead my friend only bought the 2 shirts... and with the sole purpose of doing some healthy charity. You don't have to buy all the time and in any situation. It is not needed. You can let others have the opportunity to have something to take special care of. Because I like them. I've actually got two. Me owning them isn't going to change the fact that they are simply posters and that have been available for 4 days. ...weird You mentioned that you have previously bought quite a few and that you also have some signed posters. The only weird thing is that you bought them and you don't appreciate them like an enthusiast would. Obviously this is my thought. However, next time I suggest you buy an original directly... this way we save time talking about the posters which may be of interest to a different niche of collectors. 🙂

You win. Well played.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Poster Bob on Jul 24, 2023 14:57:05 GMT 1, I remember buying the Emin posters at the time for £50 too and they are north of 1k to buy now. These DH posters are impressive in the flesh and wouldn't surprise me if they reach 1k in time. When I spoke to them yesterday they said they have been the most sought after of any signed poster that he's ever produced which is why it's one poster per person. Surprising to hear that they are the most sought after. When I was there yesterday lunchtime, I only saw 2 people buying and one of them was me. With the Claridges poster, people were queuing up outside to get them. If they were that popular they would surely have all gone by now. Claridge’s posters were free

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by thisisthesam on Jul 24, 2023 16:13:10 GMT 1, Went earlier today and picked up a black and pink poster - staff confirmed that had been the most popular choice of the 3.
Thanks for the heads up and for those who contemplating going down or not, give the gallery a ring - they are more than happy to help / tell you if you'll get one.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by lukas01 on Jul 24, 2023 16:36:48 GMT 1, A friend of mine was at the exhibition... he bought the poster... and I confirm that it's one per person (unfortunately). Perhaps the edition is 300 of each type. 😲 At least that's how he understood.
Congratulations to those who managed to buy a Hirst signed poster for just £50. 👏 😎

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Poster Bob on Jul 24, 2023 16:59:49 GMT 1, It’s been clearly stated that a gallerist suggested initial editions of 333 each. Phillips reserved the right to print more and have them signed, but that is dependent on Hirst’s availability and desire to do so, and he’s vacationing. Either way the posters have clearly done their job of paying for the event itself, opening party, etc.

Damien Hirst H13 • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Georgie Poppit on Jul 24, 2023 17:35:09 GMT 1, To be clear, they’re signed show posters and not editions. The real value in Hirst posters are the far rarer non-signed versions.
