Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by 1nkling on Jun 17, 2023 15:07:04 GMT 1, Imagine complaining that there's nothing new, in a show of old used stencils. What, no new work in your retrospective? Baffling.

What, no new work in your retrospective? Baffling. It says "exhibition of stencils from 1988 - 2023" but no leak showed either of the 2 stencils they painted this year.
And yh you would have expected at least something new it they intend to save the market - and not just mug people off for ticket money and tacky merchandise.

I think the show looks pretty cool. I can appreciate that some might want more, but I get enjoyment from seeing this stuff, I genuinely do. Undoubtedly there'll be more to this show than what we're getting right now.
I think one of the problems is Banksy has this track record for doing exciting things, pushing those boundaries. So a simple (to some) show might seem uninspired.
It's a bit like porn, I guess. When you've watched too much of it, and you need ever-increasing depravity and filth to get the endorphins flowing. When you've seen everything a human can do and insert into another human, and before you know it, a simple show won't satisfy you anymore, and now you're expecting cock up the arse for breakfast.

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by Carl Cashman Art on Jun 17, 2023 15:55:39 GMT 1, I also don't understand the obsession with the show 'saving his market'. In 2 years people will be kicking themselves that they didn't take the opportunity to buy any from the artists they love, because economy will have returned to normal.... just like post 2008.

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by Acme Thunderer on Jun 17, 2023 16:05:43 GMT 1, www.glasgow.gov.uk/LEZHeads up for anyone driving into Glasgow for this. There is a boundary for certain vehicles based on emissions/age of car etc. I wish I saw that before I left sunny England.
I’m now in Glasgow and after 7 hours driving with no break - when I saw the LEZ sign, I thought ‘feck it’ I’m going though anyway as I’ve paid for a hotel and parking. Luckily my petrol car is new and ok. 😅
If anyone has a diesel car, then you are fecked. This link will confirm for anyone else driving.

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by Acme Thunderer on Jun 17, 2023 16:11:08 GMT 1, This show has been on since a couple of days and nothing good or fresh leaked so far. No queue photos , no new pieces. If this is Banksys exit, it is a very boring and miserable one. Maybe they'll do something exciting soon - like fool a major auction house. 😉 Jps its no cameras, old work and the public is allowed in tomorrow... so there are no queues This is a photo I found this morning of the graffiti wall. Quite a few people have signed it already.
I know what I’m going to draw (if there is space tomorrow) and I will sign it Acme Thunderer, so bonus points if anyone spots it.

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by drip on Jun 17, 2023 16:53:26 GMT 1, I also don't understand the obsession with the show 'saving his market'. In 2 years people will be kicking themselves that they didn't take the opportunity to buy any from the artists they love, because economy will have returned to normal.... just like post 2008. If I had the economic possibility... I filled the house walls with Banksy's works!... Not only for the intrinsic value... but because I love those works!... Too bad I missed the train at the beginning! I've sometimes wondered what it must've been like to have gotten aboard the Banksy train early, even if you just purchased one item. Say you purchased a small canvas at an early show. Every time the market moved insanely upwards, how do you *not* cash-out?
You would have to really love Banksy, be already financially comfortable, or have a crystal ball up your arse to not be tempted to sell at numerous times over the years.
I mean, sometimes an item becomes too valuable to realistically keep. You would ideally love to keep it, but how can you when someone's waving vast quantities of cash at you?
Some folk probably sold and were happy to pay off a car, while others sold at a point they could clear the mortgage. Others are probably now sitting on drug kingpin kind of money. It's quite crazy if you think about it. You have to laugh.
Edit: I think there's also something to be said for sentimental value. Gift items from an artist, they're always more difficult to part with. You have to be in "putting your affairs in order" or black-market-kidney territory for those kind of sales to happen.

I leave out my current economic situation and in particular that until 2020. If I had that many Banksy canvases or prints… I would have been happy to keep them on the wall. I'm someone who instead of settling for an egg today... can easily wait for a chicken coop tomorrow. Although such decisions still require sacrifice. As a child I was used to having little or the right. I haven't changed cars since 2004 and it has 400,000 km. I've had the opportunity to change it several times but I preferred something else. I would hold Banksy to the wall.
p.s. And I'm of the opinion that every Banksy work you sell... at least half you have to give to charity... and 10% you have to shoot at Pest Control.

Banksy defo needed to shine much much brighter. 😉 It’s one half of the TKmaxx crew
