The auctions are very inconsistent at present! A painting sold for $95k on Monday and then for under half of that a couple of days later by the same artist but a weaker example in my opinion.
I reckon it may be a bad time to sell works by emerging artists. People will want certainty at times like this.
At the same time maybe there are bargains to be had in a softer market!

since when is 20k "cheap" for a new artist. I'm guessing these are 1/4 of this primary. I haven't ever inquired, but the amount of marketing this artist is receiving, it's hard not to notice the work. Good for him and all involved though. Great to see new artists doing well.

Who said "cheap" anywhere? Generally, when you use quotation marks you're directly quoting someone. I think "fair" based upon his recent results over the past month for a painting which is much larger than the ones which were sold at Sothebys and for less. You can argue if you think it is "fair" or not, but nowhere did I or anyone say 20k is cheap.

Pure marketing, which i guess is great because it generates fomo, even when they're pricing prints higher than a lot of notable mainstream artists. I'm not really a fan, but i wonder how many people ended up buying just because they thought they were going to miss out on the next big artist because of the amount of IG attention this artist received.

excuse me, it said "cheap price now!!!". maybe read the post directly above your post. my apologies for shortening it to "cheap". maybe it was posted mid auction and it hadn't finished yet and "now" referred to at that particular moment when the post was made. either way, it's wild how people on this forum think a few auction results from works where the paint hasn't even dried yet mean a god damn thing. i will be quiet now though and go back to observing.

let's not forget where we are. unfortunately this platform doesn't lend much at all to talking about the actual work of any artist. 

i genuinely feel today's newer collectors don't even look at the art. they collect with their ears and IG, then look at the market and then eventually look at the work...maybe.
