Tracey Emin - Self Portrait Prints, Counter Editions, by nobokov on Apr 19, 2022 15:29:09 GMT 1, Could not disagree more. I find great beauty in much of her art. Some are challenging images, and all the better for it. I genuinely think that she is a fabulous artist. I have just one print by her, but it takes a pride of place in my sitting room, hanging below a Jenny Saville print. It is one of my favourite spots, and one I often pause at to enjoy. Saddens me when artists of great merit (imo) get slated on this forum. I prefer the Saville over the Emin by a wide margin, but that certainly is a lovely pairing that lifts both works together. Great pairing.

Tracey Emin - Self Portrait Prints, Counter Editions, by nobokov on Apr 19, 2022 15:38:32 GMT 1, I have edited my previous comment, as it was written too fast and a bit in a rush. I take my distance from anyone calling others "idiots" for their art choice and preferences. I call a joke the pricing, considering all that is involved, previous pricing etc. Everyone is free to love the art they like and to spend their money how they want. I still think it's a bit of a joke (the price) but hey, it's only my opinion. Enjoy! I hope no one takes offense. I use the word 'idiots' lovingly like I do with my family.

Saddens me when artists of great merit (imo) get slated on this forum. I am totally happy for the ones that have purchased it. Everyone loves different art and away from me to judge anyone's taste. I have for instance some works from Marino Marini, that many would also just consider "a scribble" (see my wife), so far from me to have a word on this. What I am saying is that I personally don't see the reason for such a high cost - for a lithograph - and the shipping costs. It all looks to be going a bit out of hand recently, that's all. I think part of the cost on these is actually because they're lithograph. It's great that the artist paints directly onto plates that are used for the printing. (Rather than a photographic process from a painting to make a screen, etc.) The end quality is like an original ink painting (nearly). Much nicer than a screen print.
Her work is out of my price range now though... which is a bit annoying.

Tracey Emin - Self Portrait Prints, Counter Editions, by Love Is In The Air on Apr 19, 2022 16:12:55 GMT 1, I love Emin's work, but there has been a lot of self portrait work in a short space of time IMO and a price hike as well, and those two things combined could be why the three released today haven't sold out super quickly. I had one in my basket but was too slow to get it at 6k with discount so backed out myself too.
In terms of price, the previous set of 2020 self portraits were 55.5 x 45.5 cm and started at around 4k but many of the best ones were up to 8k from memory when they went on general sale. Lots had been pre-bought already, presumably by VIPS. The nicest ones sold out at top tier of 12k(9.6k with discount) on day one, meaning the gallery probably regretted their pricing or at least wondered if they should have made tier one more expensive.
Fast forward two years and Emin is as popular as ever with a new show launching this weekend in Margate to help sell the prints. These prints are bigger at 94 x 74 cm and so they have tried to price them with a significant increase. However, death as a subject matter is not universally appealing and some of these to my eyes are very dark even compared to the previous self portraits. Once you get to five figures you can buy a lot of Emin work on the secondary market at around this price(10-15k), so I think only some of this suite of 10 will sell out this week.
Others may follow suit once people have seen the exhibition but its quite a difference spending 3/4/5k on an Emin you know you can likely sell at a profit or breakeven easily, compared with a big outlay like 10k.

Tracey Emin - Self Portrait Prints, Counter Editions, by Horatio Nelson on Apr 19, 2022 16:55:08 GMT 1, I love everything Tracey produces and like to buy as much as a feasibly can. It's not bad thing that this has potentially priced out flippers, who have made an existence from buying previous releases at sub £5k and then looking to sell for double that instantly, if not when the edition sells out.
I don't think these will be slow to sell as there are a lot of Emin collectors out there who will gladly spend £10k on one of her prints, especially of this size. As others have said, the subject matter or image/vibes won't be for everyone, but this is unmistakable Tracey. I didn't buy one of these (an email landed on something else very exciting earlier today, which I went for instead), but I do appreciate everything she makes.

I love Emins work too and have never regretted buying anything of hers but have regretted not but one print in particular ( more of you print) I also made a big purchase today ( Harland Miller from white Cube Ukrainian appeal.) It sold out very quickly but not sure if I prefer these.

Have to say the White Cube VIP list criteria baffles me. Bought 2 Harland Millers from them early in his career, plus a couple of Emins more recently. But nada! And I’m always so polite too - ha ha!

They’ll be able to trace the person who shared the link as I suspect each link was personalised to the person that it was originally sent to. Prints won’t even be ready for 14 weeks so the gallery has plenty of time to look through orders prior to fulfilment and work out who naughtily shared the link despite being told not to.

Tracey Emin - Self Portrait Prints, Counter Editions, by Hubble Bubble on Apr 19, 2022 19:25:52 GMT 1, I'm told it is was already CE's most successful print launch even prior to the prints going on open sale. In terms of 'worth' it's hard to put some kind of metric on that. It's a primary market, signed work by a blue chip, internationally renowned artist in a large format, low volume (ed of 50) from a world class print house. For collectors who love her work and feel Emin is currently undervalued (I'll nail my colours to the mast here - I do on both scores) and representative as it is of her recent brush with death, for me it represents an opportunity not to be missed. The works in the flesh are extremely dramatic and anyone going for one will, in my opinion, not be disappointed. Cheers and good luck to all going for one. HB So you think a signed print at 10K retail is "undervalued"? Wow! I know she is a blue chip artist but so is Damien Hirst. The last large print with an edition size of 50 by Damien Hirst sold at retail for around 6 or 7K, I seem to remember. I don't object to Tracey Emin's rather self-indulgent prints but I do think they are well overpriced.
And that is fine, mooncub. I have no issues with your interpretation of the market. My interpretation is different. Our different tastes snd appreciations are what makes the world turn.

Of course, put it in acrylic box from Amazon the other day but might look to get a proper custom one made. Such a great understated piece.
