Banksy - Met Ball & Gold Fish , by JFCC on Mar 21, 2022 11:13:56 GMT 1, As verified/COA'd GDP pieces start to appear at the main Auctions I was asked for thoughts (values) on 2 pieces (separate conversations), Met Ball and Gold Fish which I personally thought they were the pick of GDP.
Apparently a Met Ball is likely to be appearing at Auction soon unless sold in a private transaction?
To remind every one:
Met Ball is very, very cool and looks fantastic when exhibited properly it is made from an old Police riot helmet and with roughly 650 little mirrors stuck to it and is an edition of 50.
Gold Fish is stunning and comprised of what looks like a bowl of water cast in resin with a goldfish poking its head out whilst above hangs a painting of a wild sea in a gilt frame, which is being assailed by another goldfish, seemingly in the act of trying to reach its watery depths and is an edition of 15.
The best images I saw for them were on @banksycollected

Banksy - Met Ball & Gold Fish , by JFCC on Mar 21, 2022 11:42:45 GMT 1, You may ask, two individuals who own the works in question and for whom I have sourced pieces before.
I am not a dealer, just well connected and have been a long time collector.
Hope that helps!

Banksy - Met Ball & Gold Fish , by singerstu on Mar 21, 2022 13:50:15 GMT 1, I would guess around £250,000 for the met ball and £500,000 for the goldfish.

Banksy - Met Ball & Gold Fish , by The Italian One on Mar 21, 2022 14:40:53 GMT 1, I think GoldFish in a good day at Christies will blow away any estimate, it was definitely the best piece of art from GDP and a Banksy's at his best.
Considering the triptych changing hand privately and without COA (yet) for 300-350 k and the Banksquiat for 120-140k the MetBall will go over 300k.
Honestly beside the edition size the fact that will mater the most is how many pieces will be available in the market and if those pieces went to genuine collectors; very few will be interested to sell so prices will increase.
somebody will say Banksy's market is dead and prices will decline, well....that is absolutely wrong!

Banksy - Met Ball & Gold Fish , by Smallfry on Mar 21, 2022 15:47:12 GMT 1, Interesting to see these pieces were sold to people at the drop of the hat, when a COA is available, they are considering a private sale and auction. Some good placing there.

Neither piece is for sale, one of my friends has been approached by an Auction House who have said they are currently discussing the sale of a Met Ball with another customer of theirs and it will either be sold by auction or more likely through their private sale process. They wanted to see if my friend would consider parting with his Met Ball.

Does the auction house have a Crystal Ball?

They value the collection for insurance. Pretty normal for high end collectors to be known to auction houses 🤷♂️

Banksy - Met Ball & Gold Fish , by JFCC on Mar 22, 2022 0:46:11 GMT 1, Not sure on your point he’s not a seller?
And moreover what is a flipper? Are people supposed to buy art and own it for life? Whoever sells GDP now good luck and well done you guys, you have done as PC asked (and so what if you didn’t it’s your piece and it was your money) and tastes and life changes, sell and let others enjoy it!!! Hope you made a profit!!!
So what if anyone sells what they bought or won, who actually cares? Or is this just envy that people weren’t invited to buy or if they were cannot afford it? I really regret asking a very simple question for my own personal interest about the value of 2 great pieces!!
Thanks for the sensible comments today all!!

My frustration stems from the belief there was a genuine opportunity to be in with a chance to ‘win’ these pieces but in reality a decent portion were placed in collections. I would have loved to have been invited to buy but I’m not a member of that ‘high end collector’ club you talk about.
Then the disappointment to see these at auction. I don’t begrudge people making a profit from art, it’s the timing that leaves a bitter taste. I will continue to enjoy my Banksy posters as the pricing now means prints are now unattainable for me. Thanks for the discussion, and apologies for sending it off topic.

Banksy - Met Ball & Gold Fish , by JFCC on Mar 22, 2022 11:27:11 GMT 1, Pest Control are not sending them out for any GDP products at all, you have to apply.
You apply using the normal Authentication service on the PC web site and pay your £60 fee.
If you sell through a major auction house or dealer they will get a fast tracked authentication from PC but there will still be a delay on the COA being issued.

Hi mate, yes I have registered so waiting for the next stage.. for them to charge me the money for the COA. So was hoping someone close to them would know why the hold up?

Banksy - Met Ball & Gold Fish , by The Italian One on Mar 23, 2022 9:06:59 GMT 1, the only people who are stressed about getting COA from PC are people that want to sell or collectors that bought from original owner.
don't understand all the hurry on getting COA, both lottery winner or PC buyer has at least some mail and a payment received.
if you don't need to sell it why still asking PC for COA!!
