Visit NEW YORK 🇺🇲 Street Art, Galleries, Events, by streetgirl on Aug 23, 2007 0:01:38 GMT 1, We went last year, got so lost with people's tips and advice as much of where you stay seems to focus around the area you want to hang in.
We went with the Royalton in the end (part of the Morgans Hotel Group) and it worked out perfectly for us to get around both North/South East/West. Able to walk to pretty much everywhere.

Visit NEW YORK 🇺🇲 Street Art, Galleries, Events, by discoduster on Aug 23, 2007 6:12:47 GMT 1, I've always stayed in the `New Yorker` in Manhatten. Booked well in advance it's the best value for money hotel whenever I've stayed in NY. Great views, MSG right next door, Empire State couple blocks away. Think I paid £60 a night for 2 of us in a twin.

Visit NEW YORK 🇺🇲 Street Art, Galleries, Events, by ROLLINS on Aug 23, 2007 7:17:29 GMT 1, I stayed in the "thirty thirty" hotel twice last year and have booked it again for November.
It's right next to the empire state building and is just a short walk to both times square and villagey areas.
It's very reasonable for where it is. Rooms are slightly small though. But - you only sleep there!!

About £60 a night is about right although some good advice on spending extra to be in a good area. I've never been so need to do some research had better get me a Time out guide!
There's a few names there that I'll look into, anymore would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks all

Anyway, to cut a long story short. Great location, just across the road from Madison Sq garden, just down the road from Maceys, so pretty central and easy to walk around.
Bad points - as small as a shoebox - stains all over the ceiling, a bed so soft it gave me bad back....looked like Travis Bickle's place out of Taxi Driver. My GF actually burst into tears!
Anyway - rubbish hotel aside, had a brilliant time, loved New York - at the end of the day, it's only somewhere to sleep.
Oh - we took photos, complained and when we got back was refunded a few hundred quid.

Visit NEW YORK 🇺🇲 Street Art, Galleries, Events, by ®at on Aug 23, 2007 9:55:42 GMT 1, hmmm £60 a nite you may struggle - especially in Dec which is a busy time.
Avoid: Hotel Pennsylvania Ramada Plaza/New Yorker (although the suites are great value and rather large- certainly the cheapest suite you will find in the city- rest of it is a sh*thole though) Helmsley Park Lane
You could try the Bentley hotel - which is nice boutiquey style and not too expensive in comparison to others.
If you dont mine a short PATH train to the city then try: jerseycity.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp Train stop is literally 2 seconds from the hotel, and its a few minutes across the Hudson river, so certainly no worse than a subway ride anywhere.
Good value and should be within your budget too.

Visit NEW YORK 🇺🇲 Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Octopus UK on Aug 23, 2007 10:25:45 GMT 1, The site www.tripadvisor.com has reviews of hotels and lets you search for a good price at a particular hotel. I last stayed in New York 3 years ago and got a double bed hotel room on 8th avenue, 52 street, for £60 per night - then the exchange rate was about $1.60 to the £1. A month ago I was looking at hotel prices and was shocked, £120+ for a decent hotel now. Decided to visit LA instead!

Visit NEW YORK 🇺🇲 Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Deleted on Nov 12, 2007 14:55:54 GMT 1, Hi Scott, I go to NYC regularly for business, but I'm sure others may have better advice... - check out the galleries. MOMA is amazing. as for smaller ones, Jonathan Levine and Deitch are cool - food wise, you're in one of the best places in the world for it and there are tons of choices depending on your budget. I personally like going to Chelsea Market and eating at one of the smaller shops. The Lobster Shack is pretty good. Also, try Pinkberry. There are several locations throughout the city. - Head south to SOHO/Wooster street area. you'll see some cool street pieces

Visit NEW YORK 🇺🇲 Street Art, Galleries, Events, by ricosg11 on Nov 12, 2007 15:23:57 GMT 1, just be sure to call any galleries you want to visit to be sure there is actually something on show. But the MOMA is amazing, so is the MET which oddly enough has a great contemporary wing. The Gougenheim is a must, the Richard Prince exhibit that is on show is very cool and worth seeing. Enjoy your trip, we have a good time here.

Hard to find, but basically go to Rivington and Chrystie, there is a warehouse on the corner, between that at a clothes store is a dark alley way, walk to the end of that and you're there.
End of Freeman Alley, New York, NY 10002 nr. Rivington St. 212-420-0012

See the Damien Hirst works at the Lever House Restuarant (free) look at Ticketmaster or pollstar to see what concerts will be going on when you are here. Go to Williamsburg to see some good work on the streets.
