Strange result: the Trolley Hunters canvas which auctioned at Sothebys NYC in November last year was a large, unique piece and sold for just under £5million. 

The Love Is In The Air canvas at the same auction was an edition of 15, half the size of Trolleys and sold for just under £6million.

So less is more, quite literally.

Banksyvalue hasn't updated its Banksy "originals" page for ages which is a shame as 2021 was a huge growth year for canvases and it would be interesting to see where we were this time last year.

While print values were always going to correct because of their large edition sizes, the value going forward for Banksy originals is potentially limitless.

What one person considers iconic another might not. True some images are more sought after than others but to me trolleys is a huge part of banksy’s commentary on socio-poitico-economic disparities.

But that’s just me. And yes I have trolleys and a version of liita on the we love you box set. I think it’s called that lol.

I much prefer the trolleys image.

Just the beginning for edition originals, Heavy Weaponry, Lenin on Skates, Precision Bombing, Good Meaning Bad. All very cheap compared to prints like CYW, Kates, Nola ap/s. These are very undervalued.

There’s simply no denying that, despite a person’s personal taste/preference. Despite being a great piece and Colored Trolleys being one of my personal favorites, Trolley Hunters isn’t an iconic B image by any means.

If you’re suggesting some nefarious motive, you are wrong. I own neither. Nor do I have any motivation for manipulating the price of either as I could get nowhere near affording either, even if the value of one plummeted!
I think price manipulation is abhorrent and have called it out in the past.

If not I can only imagine his value will continue to go down.

For me it looks like there's a rift between Banksy and Sotheby's at the moment.

Really disappointed by latest results, he should do a new show to raise the market.

afaik art newspaper asked Sotheby's and pest control questions that have never been answered after experts checked the piece for its dating.

A practical joke is one thing , but explain how it made it past Sotheby's experts? Because if they knew about it they knowingly had bidders on a piece falsely dated.
