Martin Whatson • THE CRACK & SNEAK PEAK , by Acme Thunderer on Dec 23, 2021 16:27:52 GMT 1, Wow, this really is taking the piss - unsigned Giclee for £195, TIMED edition by Martin Whatson. What is the world coming to? Don't get fooled people, these are not investments, you are just lining their pockets. This probably costs no more than £10 to print, probably less. Last week you could buy an edition of 100 by Tracey Emin, unsigned for £50 and that was for charity! Honestly, they really are making fools of people, don't do it! OMG - It gets worse, just saw it is £195 + VAT for UK buyers, so £250 all in for a small unsigned, UN-NUMBERED timed release Giclee. They should be ashamed of themseves, really. All the people buying this are just fuelling the greed by them. I actually think it is embarassing doing this - they are taking advantage of collectors who think they might be on to a good thing! Disgraceful, really! It’s not a giclee. It’s a giclee WITH 7 colour screen print PLUS embossing. A lot of MW prints are giclee with screen printing, so nothing new.
…and GP have been charging vat to UK buyers for the past 12+ months (except on vault sales) so nothing new again.

Martin Whatson • THE CRACK & SNEAK PEAK , by irl1 on Dec 23, 2021 16:30:54 GMT 1, Agree with above - just a pre-xmas cash grab. At £75 for a poster it may of been worth picking up but £250 for UK buyers is more than a bit steep. Wonder who's idea it was?

Martin Whatson • THE CRACK & SNEAK PEAK , by Acme Thunderer on Dec 23, 2021 16:34:43 GMT 1, I was looking for a small print to fit a small space so ‘The Crack’ will suit this spot. This mock-up is to scale so I know what they look like in situ.

Martin Whatson • THE CRACK & SNEAK PEAK , by Sunny Garcia on Dec 23, 2021 17:47:20 GMT 1, Actually, the more I think about it, it's a true open edition. This is simply an open edition that will be on sale for a limited amount of time (this time). By not signing and numbering them, GP is free to release more whenever they choose to. They're literally printing ££££
I much prefer a true timed (limited) edition where they sell "x" many prints (signed or unsigned), in a certain time/window, and don't re-print the same image ever again. No guarantees that this release will be that.

Turning up in vault sales and all sorts. Greedy, but it doesn't surprise me with GP.

Exactly Just look at how many old prints constantly turn up at vault sales There’s always demand to sell out a whole edition on a release. This will eventually crash his market, as the American market is driving the demand at the moment and unaware of the past when they cotton on, the flip market will cease

Martin Whatson • THE CRACK & SNEAK PEAK , by Fairxat on Dec 23, 2021 18:15:25 GMT 1, GP has been doing this with unnumbered AP's since they started. It’s PP’s they do this with in the Vault Sales, not AP’s.
Test press, aps, pps all have been used
The oss sold recently on the vault sale, was this a ap or regular run and how much was it ? Here you go…
At each vault sale the pps increase in price, makes a mockery of being an edition, all open editions

Turning up in vault sales and all sorts. Greedy, but it doesn't surprise me with GP. At the last vault sales, GP were giving away mini prints/open edition prints (Findac and Snik) with the numbered editions rather than selling them separately. I very much doubt they will ever be sold separately due to any potential backlash. Once the 12 hours is up, then that will be it and any that are over printed will be given away as just mentioned.
I only corrected you earlier as you did not realise it was a 7 colour screen print and not a giclee. There is a big difference.
If you don’t like the price, then don’t buy - but this is much better than a lottery, which most will never have a chance of winning and the prices then get inflated five-fold by flippers and out of reach for many. Some people buy art if they like it, rather than making money so don’t always have to get hung up on the price.
On this occasion, I think GP have been very open and transparent. I’m glad they didn’t give 1 weeks advance notice and announced as it happens. Can’t begrudge then making money on this release as it is a 7 colour screen print and I think timed releases will become more and more common.
If anyone wants something cheaper, then they can buy this piece of tat…

Will buy both to flip. Amidoingitright?
This is just taking advantage at this point.
